You’re right. While this politician’s words are clumsy, there is truth to what he’s said.
According to this site — http://www.physiciansforlife.org/content/view/492/26/ — “one of the most important reasons why a rape victim rarely gets pregnant [is] ... psychic trauma.”
If you read their statement carefully, they don't have any evidence backing their statement up - it's pure speculation..."no one knows." Those particular claims are not footnoted, and as best I can tell, the sources cited do not specifically deal with women who are raped not becoming pregnant because they are "stressed." A problem is that the cited sources are not available on line, but their first reference deals with the sexual dysfunction of MEN that are rapists, based on the article abstract, and the second two sources deal with decisionmaking by women on abortion AFTER they are raped.
That site makes the claim with absolutely no evidence. The trauma that might—and it’s a big might—affect pregnancy is trauma that occurs before ovulation and potential pregnancy.
For a raped woman to get pregnant, she would have to already be ovulatory. Could continued emotional trauma lead to miscarriage at some point? Potentially, yes, but that’s not keeping her from getting pregnant—that’s stopping her from carrying to full term.
While this may have been a mistake to poke the tiger or tickle the sleeping dragon, what he said is TRUE. Now that he has said it, he has to stand by it and explain it or get out. He has to do a Herman Cain (if you believe he was innocent).
I'm a firm believer in “THE TRUTH”, so I hope he stays in and only apologizes for maybe a poor choice of words, but stands by his statement as factually correct.
Abortion for the reasons of rape and incest, are still ABORTIONS! The baby had no part in it. It's just as much a baby as the product of a married man & woman who chose to dispose of what God has created. There is no legitimate reason to favor the murder (abortion) of a child in rape or incest cases.
