Surprise! Donald Trump will get a formal opening-day role at the Republican convention, according to Politico, who talked to “people familiar with the matter”:
Trump has generated some buzz with recent posts on Twitter saying he was planning a big surprise at the convention next week. But for the first time sources are confirming Republicans will indeed enlist Trump to be part of their opening day act.
Trumps appearance will come on a day with a theme titled, We Can Do Better, which appears likely to amount to a coordinated attack on Obamas time in office.
We are going after Obama, said Kyle Downey, a convention spokesman. If he doesnt want to talk about his failed record, we will. The American people expect and deserve better.
But what exactly does this “surprise” entail? Maybe not as much as it sounds:
Convention organizers wont say what hell be doing in Tampa or whether hell address the delegates there. But they promise the controversial billionaire and prominent anti-President Barack Obama provocateur will be part of their opening day schedule.
The move will undoubtedly generate headlines given the real estate moguls star power and his flair for the unconventional.
That’s certainly one way of putting it, yes. But if Trump isn’t speaking to delegates, what will he be doing? Perhaps he’ll be acting as some sort of ambassador for Wall Street and celebrity attendees, but even then, it wouldn’t be like Trump to do so quietly. He’ll want a big platform at some point; the only question will be whether he wants the dais.
In this case, I think LBJ’s advice probably applies. I’d rather have Trump inside the tent looking out then outside the tent looking in. (Okay, okay, I’m paraphrasing.) I just hope that the famously loose cannon doesn’t end up being the worst of both cases.
Maybe Trump’s going to bring Palin along... It would be exciting and uniting... Trump understands why it would work...
Trump will present Palin as the new contestant on Apprentice.
The selection of Paul Ryan is another manifestation of same.
"R & R seems to be on a great 'reconstruction' course".
You've nailed it, Bob! See my tag line.....

Also spotlights concern about how we do business with China, and the importance of quality experienced people put in power positions that run government vs. the current Czars and academics
I’m excited! It makes it all the more worth watching...
I love it when Trump gets going on China and trade policies. He's a warrior on these subjects. The present trade policies are killing us.
I'd like to see Trump appointed as some kind of special trade envoy directly under the president....and not as a cabinet head.
Guys like Trump and gals like Palin would never take cabinet appointments. They are bigger than that....and their egos (in the good sense of the word) would not enable them to accept such status, high-sounding as it appears.
Cabinet posts are political dead-end jobs, some are highly-administrative desk-type posts which idea go-getters don't like. Outside of high-profile spots like Secretary of State, maybe even Defense, how many cabinet members' names can anyone remember. The answer speaks for itself.
Trump, Palin, Rubio, whoever, are big names with high capabilities....and we hope they get the proper appointments in a new administration if they so wish.

The Head PimP Boss himself.. what could he possibly do or say that will make the audience go wild? Maybe he can go on Leno afterwards with Moochele and they can have a ‘hair-off’.
He is under contract to a network that is set to deliver more gay family oriented comedies .. Yes, the commershes from the Olympics are still a not so distant memory.. albeit a rapidly eroding one..
So...no Palin. No Gingrich. But The Donald front and center? Who is giving the keynote? Joe the Plumber?
Cake Filling, he going to pop out.
Jay Seculow picking judegs is the legal equivalent to Milton Friedman doing your economic/tax plan. That is awesome news.
Thank you, Leni.
Leni you are absolutely right. Thanks for your comments!!!

That would indeed be awesome news IMHO. Of course, there are bound to be folks on FR who come out and lambast Jay Seculow as insufficiently conservative and therefore we shouldn’t vote for Romney but, instead, not vote and contribute toward Obama’s victory and Eric Holder doing the Supreme Court picks (possibly picking himself among others from places such as the ACLU and the SPLC).
Yes!
Melancholy - check out Bob Ireland’s comment about Jay Seculow.
That’s wonderful. We need a Couple of conservative judges to balance the potentially long tenure of the LGBT axis!
MinuteGal said it well.
Actually, Rep Steve (IIRC that’s his first name) King has said he might author or whatever the correct word is, a bill that would make every law 0kaka signed null and void. I hope all his hires and appointments would be included. When the truth about okaka is made public, I hope a huge outcry for null and voiding would occur, and that would include the BODs on SCOTUS.
Wouldn't that be a surprise. If Trump did introduce Palin, and Palin stepped out onto the stage unexpectedly..........WOW!
I live just north of Tampa and I'd be able to see the roof blow off the GOP Convention Center from my front porch!
