No wonder Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill wanted to run against Rep. Todd Akin, even investing in his GOP primary victory two weeks ago by spending $2 million on ads that described him as too conservative. Missouri Republicans saw that as a plus, just as shed hoped. But after his Sunday comment that legitimate rape rarely leads to pregnancy, even some in the GOP are calling for him to step aside.
The Republican lawmaker was trying to explain why he opposes abortion in cases of rape, but instead marched straight into the tar pits, where he will hopefully serve as a warning to future candidates that the reproductive info gleaned at summer camp may not hold up that well in TV interviews half a century hence.
Rape as a result of sex by force is really rare, Akin told KTVI-TV. If its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

"Still shaking my head at this, how does a career politician make such a stupid statement in the first place?"
Don't know, noob...
Why did a Democrat who used to be in the KKK say the n-word on national TV?
Why did a future president listen to a Jew-hater for twenty years?
Why did the "Liberal Lion" swim off while his secretary was drowning?
Why did BJ Clinton settle a sexual harassment claim for almost 900,000 dollars?
Republicans say grossly stupid things at times... but only GOP-e hacks conveniently forget the far worse behavior from Democrats...
What was the penalty established by God for rape when He gave the law to Moses?
AND please do NOT attempt to inject your own words into what displeases me. Pro-life to me is more than the physical act of sucking in air. At some point in time all flesh returns to the dust and the soul/spirit returns to the Maker that sent it.
Now do you believe that God has a preference over an unborn child's life versus the mother's life? This is about what God commands, RIGHT???? Akin's words are not just a poor choice, but, part of the reason why the liberals have so successfully painted Republicans as stone-age brutes.
I have no doubt there have been females who have falsely accused a male of raping them. That really ought to be an instructional lesson given to boys to protect themselves. You play and you may well have to pay.
The difference is, the media forgets them too. Statements like the one this moron just made hurt the party and our brand. Is it any wonder most women support Democrats? I do have sympathy for Akin and would hate if this firestorm caused him to do anything irrational, but... damn, I hate when this kind of thing happens. It allows the liberals and their friends in the mainstream media to brand us as ignorant misogynists. Why the hell wasn’t this man vetted properly by the RNC? All senate candidates in such an important year should be. As usual, the DemoRATS get away with distracting from the issues, because they can’t win on the issues. They always win. It’s disgusting. I HATE the DemoRAT party. Especially that ***** McCaskill!
I read your post, and I have no idea what you are bent out of shape about. None. Sorry. Maybe it’s the lateness of the hour. I will read it again tomorrow when I’m fresh. If it still doesn’t make sense to me, then oh well. I tried.
Peace,
SR
Its all about standards, if you don’t have any yourself, then its easy to point at others. I guess I just have higher expectations than you do.
Note the following from Physiciansforlife.org
Finally, factor in what is certainly one of the most important reasons why a rape victim rarely gets pregnant, and that's psychic trauma. Every woman is aware that stress and emotional factors can alter her menstrual cycle. To get and stay pregnant a woman's body must produce a very sophisticated mix of hormones. Hormone production is controlled by a part of the brain that is easily influenced by emotions. There's no greater emotional trauma that can be experienced by a woman than an assault rape. This can radically upset her possibility of ovulation, fertilization, and implantation.
That is the way the issue should be addressed, but the PC mainstream will never allow it to be debated on that basis. Only the fanatics would fail to be moved by that logic.
Where exactly in there does it say that a woman CANNOT become pregnant after being rape, because either you don’t understand the question or don’t understand what your own source is supporting.
Yes, rape can be extremely stressful, however there’s no evidence that fertilization is inhibited. Getting pregnant in the first place isn’t always easy, but if the conditions are ripe, whether the sex is voluntary or through rape, pregnancy will be the end result.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8765248
“A 1996 study in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which looked at 4,000 American women over three years, found that rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency.
Specifically, the researchers found that among sexual assault victims between the age of 12 and 45, there was a 5 percent chance of pregnancy each time they were raped.
This means that among adult women, an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year, they wrote.”
There’s at least 32,000 woman a year that Akins at best just called liars and at worst called whores.
"Its all about standards, if you dont have any yourself, then its easy to point at others.
Yeah, because I pointed out that Obama listened to an anti-Semite all those years, and Ted Kennedy watched his secretary drown so he could save his career, etc. I apparently have no "standards". Okey dokey.
The point flew right over your head. Why would looking at what the Democrats do be pertinent in this situation? Who cares, they have their own issues, let the media cover up for them everytime Biden makes a boneheaded comment, Republicans won’t get that same treatment from the media and simply out of sheer necessity need to be better, but when you go ahead and make such an idiotic comment as Akins did, there’s no defense for it.
Like I said, standards, expect better from those you support than those you criticize.
Notice that the author uses the qualifier 'rarely', which certainly encompasses the 5% mentioned elsewhere in this thread, and may not be all that much 'rarer' than with consensual sex. IAC, taking this tack is a complete nonstarter given the political season and context.
The President and Mr Soros thank you for your devotion to Progress!
Kindly lose three exclamation points and explain the point.
"Republicans wont get that same treatment from the media and simply out of sheer necessity need to be better..."
People make mistakes; some people say really stupid things at times; people aren't perfect. I'm not defending his statements- I disagree with them.
You want a perfect world- but the world is messy. There is no perfect candidate, contrary to your supposed expectations. You sound like you would willingly throw any GOP candidate under the bus if the MSM tells you that he/she made a "gaffe".
You have no solutions to problems apparently- just Chicken Little sentiments. Come back when you have something interesting to say.
Yes, and the sun will rise in the east in a few hours.
Precisely in two hours.
Not arguing the idiotic. If we were honest about his intentions, though, the situation wouldn’t be so devastating.
I don’t care much for malicious interpretation.
There are too many exclamation points used on the internet(s).
*not one of the comedic treatments
for one of the comedic mash here
How's that?
If the kid is a person, then it's murder in the first degree to abort him. Otherwise, if the pregnancy is mere protoplasm developing, then the problem is simply one of medical waste disposal.
Rape is irrelevant. It's one way or the other: murder or garbage disposal. If the kid is a kid, then aborting him is murder. No way around it. And you are what you are if you are pro-life with a rape exception.
