A Tulsa police officer and devout Christian is suing his department after being punished for refusing to go to a mosque for a mandatory cultural event.
Police Capt. Paul Campbell Fields, a 17-year veteran, was docked two weeks' pay, transferred, reduced to the graveyard shift and made ineligible for promotions for at least a year, after he told his chief his faith made it impossible for him to attend a "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" at the Islamic Cultural Society of Tulsa, according to the lawsuit.
Fields, 43, is a non-denominational Christian, who quoted Scripture in legal explanation of his insubordination.
"This event is compelling me to go to a venue where a group of individuals is prepared to discuss their (Islamic) faith," Fields said during a May 2012 deposition, the transcript of which was obtained by FoxNews.com. "And in my faith, I have a duty to proselytize my faith to people (who) don't subscribe to my faith. I can't do that in uniform. And so therein lies the conflict or moral dilemma I face."
Fields' attorney, Robert Muise of The American Freedom Law Center, elaborated, "He was going to be in a place where people were going to refer to Jesus Christ as merely a prophet and not his Lord and Savior.
"And he wouldn't be able to respond to them in any way," Muise added. "That was very troubling to him."

I pray he wins. Why is America bending over backwards for these people??? It sickens me!
Maybe he should have gone to the mosque, refused to take off his shoes and spoken a message in unknown tongues, raised his hands and shout JESUS.... They would have asked him to leave.
Going to the mosque for a tour and meeting with the imams is one thing; being ordered to attend the prayer service is totally other.
It should be fairly short business to wrap this up as a clear violation of the 1st amendment.
Does Jay Sekulow know about this?
This is one reason why separation of church and state exists. No one should be compelled by the state to attend any religious function anywhere ever.
To the PC libtard crowd it is always separation of church and state; never of mosque and state
But for the record that concept is a legal fiction borne out of a private letter between Thomas Jefferson and Rhode Island Synagogue...that phrase is not in our Constitution.
Danbury Baptists
muslims appreciate law enforcement like they do other religions and pork.
Taqiyya. They are lying.
I only hope we can realize the danger we’re all in before it’s too late.
Or stoned him to death.
I know. But it fits here. If the libs can scream and holler about Christians and /or Jews, then they need to be smacked in the face with their own rhetoric and the court should uphold it...as they have done when they trespassed against us.
Plus any mosque smells.
When we said “tolerance”, we didn’t mean for you.
Now go pay your taxes, your hard working government needs the money. :)
-your friends on the Left
People have become so hyper sensitive to political correctness it is sickening, silly and irrational. We have lost sight of the FACT that freedom is the right to do as you want within the laws, moral standards, and ethical standards generally established by man. These are disappearing.
Kids are unbelievably brainwashed. I referred to a procedure as queer, as in strange, while teaching. Many of the thirty something students snickered and gasped, downright silly and stupid.
The Tulsa City government and its associated minions populate a small, vicious, PC-driven, insular, mini-universe in an otherwise normal mid-America city. If anyone here really cared about their local government and paid attention to it, this kind of crap wouldn’t happen here... Thank the Lord I live far outside city limits!
It seems the real issue here was the mandatory “prayer service”, not the mosque itself.
Frankly, I wonder why anyone would attempt to compell government officials of any level, to attend a religious service, of any denomination/sect/belief, against their will?
Allowing Islam into the country is like inviting death into your house.
We have become a bunch of morons.
The only thing any Christian(Protestant or Catholic) should ever bring to a mosque is a five-gallon can of gasoline and a highway flare.
I would like a list of other churches the officers were assigned to attend for ‘appreciation” -
No other churches - sue their hinnies off
When Jesus told us to "daily take up your cross and follow Me," He implied that it would not be easy, in fact when He used the term "cross," He was letting His followers know that there was a price that would be exacted.
Right now in the U.S. that price of following Christ is not one's life, except in extreme cases. I do believe that we will be forced to make that choice in the future, in fact, I believe we can count on it, at least that is what biblical scholars tell us.
When I was much younger and Christainity seemed to rarely be thought of as "radical, extreme, mean or hateful" as they are now, I only thought torturing Christians for their beliefs happened in the First Century. Now, I can envision it happening in my own lifetime.
My reading of scriptures seem to strongly spell out that there will be costs for standing for the teachings of Christ and this policeman's story bear witness of that fact.
If you believe that would happen, I'd like to tell you of my alien abduction and sell you the Brooklyn Bridge for one trillion dollars!
