Obama’s betrayal
The Washington Post ^ | 8/17/12 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 08/17/2012 4:47:12 AM PDT by Lakeshark

In the innocent, bygone days of February, President Obama told NBC News that the campaign would get negative against him, but provided this assurance: “I think that you will be able to see how we conduct ourselves in the campaign. I think it will be consistent with how I conducted myself in 2008 and hopefully how I have conducted myself as president of the United States.”

Not since Gary Hart urged reporters to follow him around because “they’d be very bored” has an assurance been more of an indictment. The Obama campaign has targeted and intimidated Republican donors on an Internet enemies list. It has engaged in the juvenile mockery of Mitt Romney’s singing. It has suggested, without evidence, that Romney may have committed the felony of falsifying Federal Election Commission documents. It has speculated, without proof, that Romney has avoided paying taxes. When Joe Biden engages in racially charged hyperbole, he is awkwardly but accurately reflecting the spirit of the 2012 Obama campaign.
**snip**
The Obama campaign is veering toward antinomianism. Since it regards its own motives as pure, it feels it can dispense with the normal rules of accuracy, civility and decency. So we get the political methods of Spiro Agnew combined with the moral self-regard of Woodrow Wilson. It is not an attractive mixture.
**snip**
I am admittedly a sucker for rhetorical idealism. But it can’t be a small thing, a typical thing, a trivial thing, to ask for belief and then betray it.

The Obama campaign is veering toward antinomianism.

In case there is somebody else who doesn't know that word:

antinomian |ˌantiˈnōmēən|

adjective

of or relating to the view that Christians are released by grace from the obligation of observing the moral law.

I had to digest the meaning of that word.

Basically it means "I am good, I know I am good, therefore I do not have to follow your concepts of good".

Which is practically the Democratic Party motto.

Thanks for the definition. Great word, especially to describe Obama. BOR should have that as his ‘word of the day’ today!

But it can’t be a small thing, a typical thing, a trivial thing, to ask for belief and then betray it.

Which has been happening over and over again...on both sides of the aisle.

The Dems are just more blatant about it.

This was a decent piece of journalism. Maybe things have gotten bad enough, even they are starting to pay attention.

Obama didn’t betray anyone. Those of us who pay attention knew EXACTLY what he had up his socialist sleeve in 2008.

Except for the misrepresentation of polling data, which they always have to keep pumping out as pro Obama

hussein lied!? I'm shocked, shocked I say! :-/

Anyone that believes anything that comes out of that {expletive}'s mouth is either an imbecile or on-board with his agenda. hussein lying isn't newsworthy, it'll be newsworthy if he ever tells the truth or if he ever does something that is actually good for America.

“If the conduct of the Obama campaign team were universalized, candidates would no longer require any evidence to accuse one another of complicity in a death. To accept this as a new political norm would be to define defamation down.”

Strong indictment of the almost universal corruption across the entire political spectrum, not just the obama campaign. dewhurst did much the same thing to Cruz in Texas.

Don’t get too excited. The State Run Press is still in the tank for OTrauma. Michael Gerson is the odd-man-out at the Post. He’s a Heritage Foundation conservative and a former G.W. Bush policy advisor.

Check out the comments below the article. They are a perfect example of how impossible it is to reach liberals. Their views and perceptions are so distorted, so disconnected from reality, it is truly frightening. You will never, ever change their minds, or get them to see reason. Never. No amount of facts, no amount of logic can reach them. If Obama said the sky was yellow, they would insist that it was indeed yellow, even as they stared up at a clear blue sky.
