On Wednesday, August 15, MSNBCs noon show, NOW With Alex Wagner, featured a brief but revealing segment on Vice President Joseph Bidens recent gaffe. This was the one where Biden addressed a crowd, mostly of African-Americans, and, using what sounded like a Southern accent, said of the Romney/Ryan team: Theyre going to put yall back in chains, supposedly with deregulation of Wall Street.
The NOW panel was urged to address this by host Alex Wagner, but from a specific standpoint How do we get past this and get to the big issues?
One of her guests, Eric Bates, executive editor of Rolling Stone, had this to say in response to Wagners question:
ERIC BATES: I think its going to blow over pretty quickly, so I dont think we will have to do much to get past it. I think Romneys response, even the rhetoric of his response, is interesting. He called the Obama administration angry and desperate. Well, you can call Obama a lot of things. Angry isnt one that comes to mind very often, and I think a lot of his own supporters would like to see President Obama more angry than he is. Desperate? If you want a sign of desperation, latching on to something Joe Biden says, as evidence of anything, thats an act of desperation.
When others on the panel pointed out that Biden is, after all, vice president, and thus the gaffe is fair game, Bates went on to say:
ERIC BATES: Im not saying it its not fair game. Hes almost gaffe-proof in that weve come to expect that from him so much, and its a reflection of who he is and how he talks, and everybody kind of gets that.
Whats striking about this exchange is how cavalier a major editoreven of a publication such as the Rolling Stoneis about a gaffe-prone vice president, making excuses for him the way one would for, say, a goofy uncle. As others on the panel rightly pointed out: Joseph Biden is not just anybody; hes the vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency.
When Bates says everybody gets that about Biden, what does he really meanthat we all know Biden is not as dumb as he repeatedly sounds? Or is he saying Biden is as dumb as his gaffes make him appear, but it doesnt really matter? If the former, wheres the evidence? If the latter, should an editor be shrugging off this story?
Actually, this raises a question that should concern us all. Most presidential candidates select as their running mate someone who is barely capable of walking and chewing gum!!
Notable exceptions include McCain's selection of Gov. Palin, Bush 43's selection of Dick Cheney and Dwight Eisenhower's selection of Richard Nixon. For personal reasons many here won't understand, I would also add FDR's selection of Harry Truman.
In te evenbt that something happened to zero, for example, we would be stuck with Biden. Biden is as dumb as a bucket of hair and goes out of his way to prove it on a regular basis!! Why is this man a "heartbeat" away from the presidency? Suppose somethin had happened to Clinton (too many jokes, here!), we would have been left with Algore!
This practice of POTUS candidates selecting as their VP someone who isn't up to the same levelhould terrify us all. We used o consider POTUS and VPOTUS as a team. Contemporary egos demand that the veep be "seen (occasionally), but not heard", principally because the VP typically has the IQ of toenail fungus.
Scary! We deserve better.
Tiger Beat is 100 times more relevant than rolling drone.
LOL!
Creem was the only really decent music magazine
Rolling Stone was always such a boring piece of crap.
Only they could fawn on and on about what Joni Mitchell thought of politics
“Everyone Knows He’s an Idiot”
Hell, you can’t argue with that.
And when they finally put Dr. Hook on the cover, they only did it as a drawing. And they tried to kick the singer out of the office when he came to buy his five copies.
Screw’em.
Let’s face it.
Rolling Stone sucked. Always did, even in the Hippy days.
Either way, it's still an indictment of the MSM. This is their administration. They wanted it. They made it happen. They own it.
It's ironic that Biden is personifying the MSM in general. It's what they asked for; it's what they got; but it's not what they wanted. And it's not what they wanted to defend.
As Biden goes down, so goes the MSM.

“Biden was selected .... wait for it .... because he was not in any way competition for Obama.”
Biden was selected as a life insurance policy for 0haha. Clintons have, shall we say, sharp elbows.
>> Rolling Stone Editor Defends Biden: Everyone Knows He’s an Idiot
Yet these Leftwing dirtbags held Palin accountable for every massacre, hate slur, and beheading; yet, described her as stupid.
“And SHE (Palin) is as sharp as a tack, and ten times as qualified as Obama.”
No, no, no.
Mr. Obama’s intelligence is off the charts; his brilliance is cosmic, his genetic advancement is beyond that of the most brilliant human on the face of the earth, and, by the way, Ms. Palin is an idiot.
This message was brought to you by Herr Goebbles, Izvestia and Pravda.
IMHO
I can’t even imagine how entertaining the Ryan/Biden debate will be.
FWIW there won’t be any debates. But, if there is, Joe walks off. And the press tries to demonize Ryan. It’s in the scrip.
Well .. of course, Obama didn’t want Hillary .. because people who associate with the Clintons seemed to have this major problem of either being shot; or having a terrible accident.
You can’t really blame O for looking out for his own survival.
