CU is only doing this as to housing it owns. They are saying that as a landlord we are banning guns from our property.

Same thing as the Aurora theater that purportedly banned guns from its premises.

So, if, God forbid, a shooter wants to attack the CU campus, where do you think they will go? To the area where the Supreme Court said they can't ban guns or to the gun free area???

A theater may be able to do that... I'm not sure a landlord can. Can a landlord tell you that you can't have booze in your rental?

I would say there is a slight difference between the theater and CU.

The theater is private property, whereas the university is public. Now if it were a private school, then yes, they might be able to curb guns. But I think it depends on if regular landlords can prohibit guns on their property.

Don’t think they can do that without complying with the Colorado Statute. To comply, they would have to set up a perimeter around the dorms and inspect each person coming in to make sure they don’t have guns. The idea behind the provision is that if a public entity is to ban some guns by good guys, that they make sure bad guys aren’t sneaking them in.

That is a violation of the law; specifically the State's constitution:

Art. II, Section 13

The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons.

Arguing that they, as landlord, can ban guns from their property is in accordance and harmony with the State's Constitution is the same argument as saying that contracts of an employee may be binding upon their children (i.e. that their involuntary servitude isn't involuntary servitude because their guardian authorized it).
