Two St. John [sheriff] deputies and two civilians were reportedly shot in LaPlace at about 5:00 a.m.
UPDATE: WWL-TV reports that two officers are dead and two others were shot in the incident.
The incident occurred near Bayou Steel on Highway 3217 in a Valero plant parking lot. That highway remains closed at this time. The parking lot is located in St. John Parish, while the Valero plant itself is located in St. Charles Parish.
There is no word yet on the conditions of the officers or the other two people shot in the incident.
A witness on the scene called WWL Radio News and said that he heard "seven or eight shots" when it happened.
The witness said it appeared a police vehicle had been shot multiple times.
Police officers from several parishes are involved in the hunt for the gunman, including State Police, and deputies from Charles Parish, St. John Parish, and Jefferson Parish.
One deputy was air-lifted to the hospital, according to a witness.
WWL-TV reports that it appears that workers are being evacuated from the plant.
So, are they 0bama voters? Sons?
Obligatory media question from presser that is live NOW, ‘we’ve heard rumors that White Supremacists are involved’.
Of the five, there are men and women.
Since all of the deputies are/were white who are they claiming the White Supremacists were? The gunmen or the deputies?
I assumed the gunmen. Started as a traffic stop. Another media talking head asked about “the rumor” that one or more of the gunmen worked at the plant and were “disgruntled”. I think that the msm starts the rumormongering.

interesting unrelated but read on NOLA site (i believe) that this town, Laplace, had a “boil water” order due to a ruptured supply pipeline. This order was lifted at approx 11 this morning.
sure is a lot of rain
one name has started to leak out and has been printed by a small newsite.
I would wait on posting anything until something firm comes out on names.
"...a source within local law enforcement confirmed..."
isn't reporting. No given, named source? I wouldn't post it.
nope, i would do that. there’s only once sourced article. a larger news site has linked to that article. the whole thing is awful and strange.
nola is now reporting the names of the perps.
so sad for the officers and their families.
Thank you for keeping me up to date.
I can’t post from what I have to use (article posting), plus it’s a Gannett site. It’s called the Shreveport Times (on web). The story is awful and strange.
