Israeli minister warns of 30-day war with Iran
Telegraph UK ^

A strike on Iran’s nuclear sites would spark a 30-day war with missile attacks on Israel's cities and as many as 500 dead, according to the Israeli minister responsible for preparing home defences.

Somehow I think the new regime in Egypt will try and pig-pile when Israel and Iran get it on.

500 dead?

I think any such war would produce minimally 100 times as many killed. Perhaps 1000 times as many.

Egypt may, but when the Aswan Dam is eliminated I think they will have other things to worry about. 500 dead seems like a typo.

500 dead?

I'm pretty sure he is talking about Israeli casualties, not Iranian.

No ground element. A few hours of missile exchanges. Then a surge of air warfare targeting their air defense systems for a few days. Followed up with several weeks of lower tempo but more easily sustained operations pounding anything/everything of military value in Iran.

One possible exception to the no ground element could be the establishment of a FOB for refueling operations. If they did that, I'd take it as a sign they plan on running a lot of missions and pounding the Iranians back to the stone age.

Are we talking Israeli deaths from retaliations on Israel as opposed to the total deaths of her enemies?

Israel has in the past been able to keep her civilian casualties low in comparison during wars and conflicts.

I worry that an enemy may be foolish enough to lob a WMD into Israel.

Israel's response would be beyond devastating. The Muslim in the White House will have no sway.

Due to its relatively diminutive size, population-wise, economically, militarily. Israel does not have the luxury of waging long wars. It simply does not have the resources to extend fighting for more than a few weeks at a time. The 1967 War known as the 'Six Day War' is emblematic of its limited fighting stamina capacity.

When the Israeli Minister talks war in terms of 30 days, it is indicative of a serious military threat unprecedented in Israel's history and speaks to the seriousness in which Israel assesses the military and economic condition as being extremely dire.

Under conditions that the Minister makes reference to, the strain and burden on Israel to continue fighting and remaining victorious, I could not rule out the use of nuclear weapons by Israel in order to survive.

There is a precedent for what is required for Israel to employ nuclear weapons in war and that was in 1973 when the Egyptian Army was making great headway in the Sinai and Israel was rushing to keep the Egyptian armies from advancing that happened as Israel waited to respond due to the Yom Kippur holiday and Golda Meir's hesitancy, it was known that Israel had already began rolling out the aircraft equipped to fly nuclear missiles and that they were being armed

Think the original article claimed it was 500 Israeli’s dead every day they experienced mass rocket attacks from Iran, Syria and Lebanon. So 30 days of war means up to 15,000 dead Israeli’s from rocket attacks during the war. And that assumes no WMD was used. This is the casualty number they expect when they go to war.

“Yes and gas will be $10 a gallon and a barrel of oil 300 bucks”

No one is going to like paying this. I certainly won’t, and you won’t, either.

But the “cost of gas” for a time during and after the Israeli/Iranian “war” is going to be far less than the ultimate “cost” of the Iranians obtaining nuclear capability.

Israel is their closer target, but to them we are as a great (or greater) an enemy and the “rewards” of an attack on the United States to the lunatics there actually may be more desirable...

I think it is a timeline of how Iran may respond, not when Israel will do it.
