It was widely reported back in June that the producers of the HBO series “Game of Thrones” deliberately used a gruesome image of former president George W. Bush’s head impaled on a stake during the drama’s season one finale. The backlash was so great that DVD shipments were halted, digital copies were edited, and an apology was issued via press release.
Now the author of the books, George R.R. Martin has shown his true colors, blaming conservatives in swing states for what he called “voter suppression”.
In a recent blog post titled “Show Us Your Papers”, the avowed Democrat from New Jersey who thinks Obama is “the most intelligent president we’ve had since Jimmy Carter,” (really) launched a diatribe that accused Republicans of disenfranchising large groups of minority voters in an attempt to steal the election by trying to impose voter ID laws.
“I am way too busy these days for long political rants,” he wrote. “But I would be remiss if I do not at least make passing mention of how depressed, disgusted, and yes, angry I’ve become as I watch the ongoing attempts at voter suppression in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa, and other states where Republicans and their ‘Teabagger’ allies control key seats of power.”
The Huffington Post couldn’t resist picking up the story, partly because of the steady stream of comments that were “overwhelmingly in agreement with Martin’s words.” It was also just the excuse HuffPo needed to reiterate the so-called legitimacy of the study that somehow proved the scarcity of voter fraud, further “undermining the rationale behind voter ID laws.”
Martin is one of many liberals who have tried to demonize the legislation by referring to it as a new kind of poll tax, but voter fraud is still a legitimate concern according to a recent Judicial Watch report.
Sorry to the followers! I should have said: “The Sean Bean character.”
See? I can’t even keep the Starks straight!
“I read the first few books in this series when they came out, and very much enjoyed them. But I feel no great urge to read the new novels of the revived series, which appears to have been revived because he stands to make some good money from the TV series.”
The series was never dead. It just took him more than a half decade to write book four because his handling of the characters and the plot was so disorganized.
I really loved the first 3 books, and I was getting a little mad at the time it took him to write book four. I would go to his website for news from time to time, and he would be whining about how hard it was.
When book four finally came out, I was so incredibly angry about how awful it was. I had to wait 6 years for that??? I was angry for years about it. On the other hand, I can name very few series that didn’t have at least one worthless book (Jordan, for example, had 3 or 4). Book 5 came out right before the show started, and I clenched my teeth and bought it, as there are characters that I’m interested in. I thought it was a much better book, getting closer to what the first three were. There is one scene in book 5 that I can’t wait to see on the TV show (if they are still producing it).
As far as the show, I think it is very well done and superbly cast for the most part (come on, Tyrion has got to be one of the best cast characters of all time).
As far as George RR, I’ve always known he was a big lib from posts on his website, but he deserves kudos for his first 3 books, and a better #5, and hopefully makes an awesome conclusion in #6 (or he will probably find a way to f’ it up and drag it out for 3 more books). As far as I’m concerned, shut up and write!!!
I knew there was reason I didn’t watch that idiot show and basically any other network shows except for “Amazing Race.”
Typical Lib. Work is too hard!!!!
This guy looks like Santa’s creepy sex offender / train conductor long-lost brother or something. Who the hell owns a mirror and looks like that?
In Spain there was a saying, “Dumb as a Painter”- that in the era of Velazquez, El Greco, etc.
You get the point, artists produce beautiful stuff, but like children they say the darnedest things.
In any case read the books. They are good. There is little to no sex in the books and it’s all about cold calculation in politics. The total antithesis of what the man professes to believe.
Kind of explains why he’s incapable of completing the “trilogy”.
He just throws a mass of unconnected plot threads up against the wall and is totally unable to resolve them into a coherent whole.
He’s not just lacking a moral compass, he lacks a compass for “reality”. (Magical or not.)
What I want to know is where is all the outrage for our many other racist laws keeping black people from doing things that white people can do anytime they want. Things like going to an R rated movie, buy alcoholic drinks, travel outside of the U.S., or buy a gun. And this is just off the top of my head. I for one think it is really evil that black people can’t buy a beer. Why not? What is so wrong about them having a drink? And why can’t they go to a movie, or smoke a cigarette if they want? White people can, so why not black people? Surely this is racist, and yet there is no outrage. Why have people ignored this for so long?
You have to remember, this guy lives in Santa Fe, NM. They are a bit off in Santa Fe. Especially the libs. I know the few Republicans there, and they admit, libs in Santa Fe are an odd bunch.
I suspect most states have an I.D. requirement for use of those “food stamp” debit cards, too. It’s just shameful that only white people are able to take advantage of those programs. (rolls eyes)
Yes, very good point. Why can’t minorities get food stamps too? Doesn’t it really upset you? It does me, and yet Al Sharpton, and Martin above, seem okay with it. I have never heard any of them raging against these things like they do voter ID laws, so they must be okay with it. And why is that? Are they perhaps actually just racists who hate black people?
Okay, I was getting sick of reading his books anyway. I kinda figured he was a “progressive.”
He’s got a beard - he’s hiding something...
I guess this moron has seen Obama’s transcripts.
Haven’t seen the show.
Oh, shut up and write...
Post of the week, and it’s only Tuesday.
