First of all, asserting that there is such a thing as a “lesser of two evils” is an act of naivety.

It's probably more naive to think that some political alternative will be wholly good and that this is foreseeable in advance.

Government is, I guess, a necessary evil, and any exercise of power has perils and risks associated with it.

Electing any government means getting together with people who don't entirely share your own view and trying to do things when the outcome is unpredictable.

Libertarians and anarchists like to assume that by rejecting government they represent something wholly and unquestionably good, but that's hardly the case.

They don't get away from risk and uncertainty, and to the degree that they advocate major changes, the risks can be large.

A multiparty system, would allow you to vote for exactly what you want, but rather than getting what you ask for your party will have to go into coalition with other, more questionable parties if it wins.

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. -- H.L. Mencken

The GOP is using the Overton Window tactic against us pushing us ever leftward a little at a time.

http://www.mackinac.org/7504

The GOP has moved leftward since they got rid of Reagan. Bush Sr was a moderate move to the left followed by the Clinton big move which led to Bush Jr which was painted as a move to the right but wasn’t. This led to the big move of McCain with an attempt to adjust with Palin and it failed. Now we’re seeing the biggest leftward GOP move of all with an attempt to adjust with Ryan. Its like Bill Clinton is our nominee.

I gave $200 to the Cain campaign, another $200 to the Santorum campaign, and voted for Santorum, all to stop Romney. Nevertheless, we're stuck with him as the only alternative to Obama and communism. Like it or not, it's "either or," and nothing else. That means, try to fool yourself as much as you want to, your choice not to vote for Romney is a choice to vote for Obama and communism. Hope you're proud of yourself.

When not fighting for the lesser of two evils , the greater evil wins.

Of course.

And in our day to day life in the Real World (not a perfect, imaginary world controlled completely by our own personal preferences), all the choices we make (trivial decisions and major ones) entail weighing the pros and cons and choosing the lesser of two evils.

It's not logical to expect political choices to be exempt from that reality.

Excellent post! Just what I’ve been telling people for months: Both of the candidates we’ve had foisted upon us will lead us to Socialism. One more quickly than the other.

I will not vote for either of them.

The only way I could be voting for Obama is if I vote for Obama .
I do not vote for liberals.
Never fear my vote won’t count regardless Obama has already bought my state.

I will support neither Obama nor Romney. They are the same. Time to break free of the GOP elite trying to scare us with the boogeyman.

Agree....Bush and that crowd made me a sultan of cynicism.

Now the GOP-e runs some wealthy liberal from Massachusetts, as the party groupies run around telling everyone to hold their noses again...It will be OK...lol

What a farce.

Guess what? Even Romney is hedging his bets on Ryan’s budget plan. He’s refusing to endorse it, while at the same time “applauding” it, while at the same time saying he’s going to pass his own undefined thing.

The solution is to give the GOPe the finger, show them that they do not own us, work on the house and congress to oppose Obama, and get a conservative to run in 2016.

Ok, but it’s also still the lesser of the two evils and that’s unfortunately the only choice we have this election. If you’re an American, you ARE going to have one of them dropped in your lap come November. Don’t you want a say in which one? America has gangrene. We can use the RINO knife to amputate and survive, suffering a less than ideal short term political outcome, or...we can let the 0bama regime inflict its worst on us for another four years. The ostensibly pure conservatives already lost the primaries and the third party candidates can do nothing but Perot us into another four years of 0bama, so what do we do? Sit around moaning on the sidelines until after the election and then smugly say “I told you so” as the country crumbles before our eyes? There are people around here who seem to make a full time job of stamping their feet and shaking their fists while yelling about how much the GOP sucks; maybe it makes them feel good to vent their spleen, or maybe they have ulterior motives, but either way it only helps 0bama in the end. Don’t fall for it.

The author obviously knows that Jesus is running.

Why he doesn’t tells us which box to check to vote for Jesus is evil in and of itself.

A refusal to vote, or a vote for a third party, is not a vote for Obama, or a vote for Romney, but a vote against the charade...

We simply refuse to give the farce legitimacy by casting our vote for any one of them.

I become an accomplice in the crime. I commit self mutilation. I give power to the lie.

Don't fall for the psyops.

They know that people won't turn out for Obama. Now they're trying to convince YOU to stay home, too.

D-uh. He wants to win the election. No candidate is going to sign over his budget-crafting power before he gets into office.

I agree with you. (fellow Caniac here!)

I don’t admire a man without a solid foundation.

Romney will say or do whatever it takes to be elected. He’s trying to appease the base while not alienating scared seniors.

He’s a freain’ flake - an East Coast Liberal. A RINO.

BUT, I am very afraid myself. I’m scared that we won’t have a country left in another four years. I’m scared to hell of debt (personally) and I’m horrified by our national debt. I’m scared of inflation. I’m frightened for my 18 and 20 year old children who’re just starting out. I’m terrified for my soldier-husband who’s been to combat six times and it’s never been more dangerous than when we deployed under Obama. I’m disabled and I’m afraid to be at the mercy of bureaucrats who believe that I have no value as a human being.

I’m scared enough that I would vote for Hitlery just to get rid of Obama.

It’ll be one HELL of a lot harder to undo more damage than to prevent the damage in the first place. We know, from past experience, that once liberal policies are in place, they’re almost impossible to get rid of.

Anything to convince Republican supporters to stay home interests you, right?

Anyone encouraging anyone to vote for anyone except the main opposition candidate to Obama is actively working to get Obama reelected.

As I said elsewhere:
"Don’t Get Suckered into Supporting the Republican Party" is exactly what folks like George Soros are saying. You can bet some of the biggest supporters (probably even financially if you could dig deep enough) of conservative third parties are liberal Democrats and other leftists who have taken over the Democrat Party and are busily working to take over the Republican Party. They know that dividing the vote amongst a variety of "Hey, I'm more conservative than you cause I didn't vote for any Republican" nitwits is one their most effective ways to destroy their opposition and to solidify a political hegemony.

Over the past thirty years they have taken control of one of the two largest political parties in a country where winner takes all in elections and are busily working to fracture the only opposition they have by encouraging conservatives to leave the Republican Party in the hands of RINOS rather than working to take over the party apparatus as they, the Leftists, have taken over the Democrat Party. For those who say, "Well, I'm a proud member of the Constitution Party or the Declaration Party or the Conservative Party or the Southern Principled Conservative Party of Holy Ghost Fire on the Mountain Pre-Rapture Remnant of the Real Thing Party and someday we'll be big enough to replace the Republican Party, just like the Temperance Party or the Bull Moose Party did":

Doofuses: we don't live in a parliamentary system where representation is divided proportionally between the losers!

It's winner take all, baby, and the sooner you realize that and stop wasting time fighting like cats and Baptists to multiply the number of me-so-conservative parties the sooner you'll have turned back the liberal encroachment on the existing main opposition party to their main vehicle for political power, the Democrat Party, instead of complimenting yourself on just how wonderfully more conservative your loser party is going to be than the one you deliberately abandoned to leftist takeover.

"Hey, I don't like these liberal bumper stickers on this fully functioning vehicle or the places its driver is taking us, right? So, I've got, like, this great plan to deal with that, 'kay? Instead of tossing the driver out on his butt and getting some more appropriate body detailing and then driving it wherever we want to go, we're going to get out at the next corner, wag our fingers really hard at the driver as he speeds off, and then from scratch build our own new most perfectly conservative vehicle and, someday, maybe, enter that into the race! And won't that glorious day be, oh, so grand?"

And you think Jesus is going to say, "Well done, good and faithful servant for refusing to take back the existing opposition party and, instead, throwing your vote to something that couldn't possibly defeat a known enemy because you thought being considered a more nearly "true" conservative party than any other was more important than actually conserving and preserving the Republic against an ongoing enemy onslaught"?

Dream on.
