EW YORK (CBS NEWS) - An ingredient used in artificial butter flavoring for popcorn may worsen the effects of an abnormal brain protein thats been linked to Alzheimers disease.
A new study in Chemical Research in Toxicology examined diacetyl (DA), an ingredient used to produce the buttery flavor and smell in microwave popcorn, margarine, candy, baked goods and even pet food. It is also created naturally in fermented drinks like beer, and gives some chardonnay wines its buttery taste, according to the study.
Scientists at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis conducted an analysis of DA, a chemical which previously has been linked to respiratory problems in employees at microwave popcorn and food-flavoring factories. They found that DA has a structure thats similar to a substance that makes beta-amyloid proteins. Too much amyloid that clumps together to form plaques are a tell-tale marker of Alzheimers disease in the brain. The researchers wanted to see whether DA would clump those proteins in a similar fashion to form plaques.
They found DA did lead to an increase in levels of beta-amyloid clumping, leading to toxic effects on nerve cells the scientists grew in a laboratory.
Diacetyl occurs naturally in REAL butter, too. That’s partly why it tastes ‘buttery’ and why they put it in fake butter.
So if watching the flaming liberal propaganda coming out of Hollyweird doesn't turn you into a blithering idiot, eating popcorn while you do it will.
Crisco is all partially hydrogenated oil, so it’s not the old fashioned way. Try coconut oil. It is not hydrogenated and it is actually very healthy for you.
But for less than $20, you can get a Presto hot air popper, then make regular popcorn fast and cheap with real butter.
My favorite for popcorn; was using an old wok. Made the BEST popcorn - quickly - and in large amount; with little risk of burning any of it. Don't know if it was the shape - or material. Whatever- it was the best popcorn 'maker'/lol
One more point per popcorn preferences; WHITE kernals are the best and sweetest; IMHO. And yes; if butter added; then use the real thing! Authentic 'anything' better; than synthetic or mixed media oils; so to speak. . .
We ate articifical butter for awhile, then saw how it was Leftists pushing it’s use.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientists to realize that when a death cult is pushing something, stay way.
We’ve used real butter for decades.
Oh, and don’t forget this: “Salt, we misjudged you”

Following Leftists WILL kill you.
Thanks for that link and article.
Thanks for the link.
When the sales clerk asks me at the theater if I want butter on my popcorn, I usually respond that yellow greasy stuff will do just fine.
I use a hot air popper and warmed up olive oil. Am I safe?
If you use Coconut oil instead of crisco, it will taste better and be better for you.
That’s what theaters used before the feds stepped in.
