I always saw this as a legal matter. If you don't protect children from sexual predators, and actually encourage an environment where sexual predators can isolate and attack children, you are creating a legal nightmare for the associated organization.

The scouts may find their existence at an end after a few successful lawsuits for homosexual assault/molestation of children. The indoctrination is bad enough, but enabling direct recruitment to their ranks via unlimited access for molesting innocent children is an abomination.

I was stunned at seeing an old scout leader in a troop my son belonged to years and years ago come out in support of this. I always felt he was dodgy but his statement confirmed it. Either he or his son are both ways based on his statements. I never let my son go on camping trips alone with this troop, I went with him. OTOH, he's a boy scout leader now. My son had a choice before he crossed over into boy scouts and chose another leaders boy scout troop instead of this fellows. We agreed immediately it was the right decision and this fellow actually called and asked "why?".

We had personally witnessed his lack of responsibility for some kids on occasion and weren't willing to submit our child to his care in potentially unsupervised situations. Our impressions were spot on, apparently.

Funny thing: he also ran a football pool. Always ran out of spaces populated by fellow scout dads. Seemingly this year we have a week to go with only3 spots reserved. Guess the word did get out.
