(Arlington, VA) Army Brigadier General Tammy Smith has become the first openly gay flag officer to come out while currently serving in the U.S. military. She was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in a private ceremony which took place today at the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. BG Smith received her stars from her wife, Tracey Hepner.
“For years, gay and lesbian generals and admirals were forced to hide their families in order to protect their careers. It is a great day for our military and for our nation when this courageous leader is finally able to recognize her wife for her support and sacrifice in the same way that all military families should be recognized for their service to our country,” said Sue Fulton, a 1980 West Point graduate and member of the OutServe Board of Directors.

You’re absolutely right. The homosexual cliques — in close quarters barracks — will be absolutely uncontrollable. You may as well as put oversexed men and weak-willed women together in the barracks.
Gays in the barracks is an explosive situation that will be terrible for unit cohesion and battle preparedness.

Since she was promoted through the ranks when it was illegal, IMHO, every reporting officer and reviewing Senior on her fitreps from at least senior company grade through the present should be charged and sent to court martial, have their discharges changed to less than honorable and loose their retirement.

A one star in the Navy was Commodore BUT it became
REAR ADMIRAL/LOWER HALF.
For awhile the Navy didn’t have a 1 star ADM so the Senior Captains (O6) would have to sit there with their Eagle visible while their Army and AF counterparts were running around with 1 star... Of course when the Capt got promoted to ADM he would have 2 stars, so at least visibly he was ‘SR’ to the 1 stars....kind of upset the A % AF...

I had an E-4 (Sgt.) hit on me when I was an E-2 (Airman).. He lost one of his front teeth... and I never got reported, I wonder why ;)
He never messed with me again though :D

Sure they were. I figure about 97% of armed forces personnel were gay before last year. The gayness has been going down though because the situation in Afghanistan is sure not making a lot of people gay now.
If you were shown her picture 30 years ago and said this was a US Army general you would have either been locked up in an insane asylum or ridiculed to the ends of the earth. We’ve come a long way’s baby. Except in the wrong direction.
