Shooting? I suspect the audience here probably does care (but the larger audience may not) and the US has won at least two golds in shooting sports.

I am not that fanatical about soccer allegiances. As I told you about my trip to Liverpool - some of the most fun I had was the banter with some American Everton fans at my hotel.
And, don’t tell anymone. My girlfriend is a fanatical manchester United supporter. :)
Especially with foreign premier league fans who follow teams from afar, it’s absolutely nutty to me if you get too hostile and tribal about it. Even in England.. The average Mancunian and Liverpudlian has a lot more in common than not.
BTW. I agree on that post calling you on the “minor” sports. A sport like team handball I suspect is a lot larger worldwide than most American sports. Good on any athlete winning a gold.

I suspect he would have acted likewise to any anthem, because he always acts classy. I don’t get the critics who attack him for showboating. They are way too uptight.

It's possible. But I've noticed with Baseball the steroid abuse was focued in about 4 locker rooms (SF, Oakland, NY Mets, NY Yankees). This indicates to me that the performance enhancers were focused to certain specific distributors. Or it could just mean that the guys got caught were caught in the same dragnet once the distibutor got identified. On reflection, it probably was the latter.

He’s apparently in the Fulham doghouse atm (i.e. training with the reserves) due to telling management that he would like to leave for Liverpool. I hope we get a stronger American connection. I mean LeBron James is one of our owners now :P
And, we played a fantastic preseason game just now on Fenway park.
Dempsey is a quality player and will be an upgrade on Dirk Kuyt imho. He also brings in a great winning professional attitude. An American never say die and winning attitude. We could use some of that at Anfield.
Really looking forward to the new season now. Just tonight we progressed in the Europea league against some Belarussian opposition, but the signs were good. Not quite Barcelona, but we played a quality passing game I have not seen since the days of Rafa Benitez.
btw. You might enjoy this video made by famous Evertonian musician before the FA Cup finals this year. I think most scousers would like to see more of that, and have the rivalry return to the days of the “friendly derby”. Like when a full Wembley in the 80’s when Liverpool and Everton met chanted “Merseyside, Merseyside”...

Apparently not. But they were 5th in total medals in the last Winter Olympics -- which is more their thing.
Yeah, the same of course goes for adding up the EU nations medal tally which would be crushing everyone.

It’s hard to tell, and I guess it’s best not to speculate.
Though legends like Carl Lewis (who was never caught) has admitted to taking banned substances, and there are rumours that the blood tests of American track athletes at the 84 summer games were retested and that they were all positive.
I guess I feel a bit the same about the Norwegian skiing miracle in the 90s where we went from 0 golds I think in 88 Calgary, to topping the medal count ahead of America, Germany and Soviet/Russia in the Winter Olympics.

I guess my attitude is that if you are not caught or have admitted to doping like Lewis did you are innocent. BTW. Lewis did use teeth bracers are a grownup. If you need teech braces as an adult (and you are not English) something is often wrong :_P

She is wearing a Manchester United jersey (one of the major soccer franchises in England), and I am a fan of their major rival, Liverpool Football Club. A sort of local hate relationships as between the Red Sox and the Yankees just a lot more intense :)
Hence he mentioned Usain Bolt, who reportedly has shunned offers from the NFL because as a Manchester United fan he wants to try out for them. :)
