I spent eleven winters in Minnesnowta during my younger years. (Yes, folks there do have years, but the heavy duty measure of time is winters.) I never wholly accommodated myself to the prevailing self-described "liberalism," but still miss people's friendliness and frankness, the plain old-fashioned honesty that seemed ordinary and abundant as air.

The OP links this issue to voter ID laws, but I don’t see the connection. Michael Milken is a felon and thus ineligible to vote in some states, but he really is Michael Milken and can probably produce photo ID.
