A few thousand active Taliban armed mostly with rusty old AK-47s are tying down how many of our troops, MRAPS, helos, Predators, etc? Are we winnin that one?
Imagine not a few thousand Taliban with old AKs, but millions of soldiers with experience from Vietnam to OIF, armed with scoped deer rifles.
Ever conjure up that “scenario?” It’s never happened, but I know one thing: even Hitler was not foolish enough to invade Switzerland.
Not a civil war, but the Winter War where the initial Soviet Invasion of Finland basically collapsed due to a few battalions of ski troops cutting the supplies of the mechanized Russian forces. The Russians made the best of it and went into defensive laagers, but the Finns just picked them off.
And the Taliban is made up of people who have a culture, all the way back to Alexander the Great, of never surrendering. They will fight, because that is who they are. Will that happen here? Most of the “TEA” party is older, conservative, and set in their ways. That is not the group you turn to in a war. They have to much to loose.

That would give us..
10% of South Carolina’s population for Snipers are 467,923
50% of the population own firearms & are True Hunters, give or take 3 or 4 are 2,339,615
Free Fire Zone would cover..but not limited to

Land area - 30,111 square miles
Inland water area - 1,006 square miles
Coastal water area - 72 square miles
on our on home ground advantage. plus..
Some of them Georgia boys would not want to miss out so add another couple 1000 or 2

Once word got out that Mordor was tactically moving against the Right, it would be SHTF nation-wide. LEO morale would crumble with wide-spread desertion to protect their own families ("Honey, don't go out there, who's going to protect us?").
Dissention in military ranks would the erode command and control structure: zealous chiefs with very few indians interested in the fight ("Screw you sir, I didn't come back from Afghanistan for this.")
The world would witness and be amazed (our enemies terrified) by the true purpose behind the 2nd Amendment as Mordor's rule collapses in mere weeks if not days.

And those Afghani’s are mostly illiterate tribals. Their only real advantage is that they know their terrain and have networks inside which they can move contraband under the noses of the occupying force.
In addition to your scenario of millions of men with modern military training with modern small arms and add to them thousands of devious engineers with the ability to make modern civilization stop on a dime. Think about what little it would require to take down the US electrical grid for real. Think about how little it would take to turn a modern refinery into a roman candle. A few tracers lobbed in from a half-mile away... and stuff gets real sloppy, real quick.
The economy suddenly goes down a deep, dark hole, not to return for possibly a decade.
Pretty hard to finance a war on borrowed money when the lenders see little chance of being repaid any time soon.
