There are a lot of southerners in the Army. And the next Civil War will probably be Red states vs Blue!

“Regardless, I just do not see a well oiled military machine can be brought to knees by weekend warriors who are probably over 50 and not in good physical shape”
Well now, my National guard division ran the largest and most sucessfull area of Iraq...Some “special” soldiers were ordering us to “return to the game” after only 6 hours of us transferring over to Big Army due to they were FUBAR!

U.S. troops firing on citizens? Not that far fetched.
“THE SAD TALE OF THE
BONUS MARCHERS”
http://www.worldwar1.com/dbc/bonusm.htm
These were veterans our troops attacked. Back then, the troops that attacked the Bonus marchers were probably so conservative they would make FReepers look like liberals, but they attacked WWI vets without hesitation when ordered to do so. What makes anyone here so confidant that our military today would hesitate to attack citizens if ordered to do so.

FreeRepublic gets a mention in this post on SipseyStreet:
“Congratulations to COL (Ret) Benson. You have just hit the national political scene via Free Republic. The headlines will read: “US ARMY PLANNING TO QUELL TEA PARTY INSURRECTIONS.” This article should be a thoughtful discussion on the process of suppressing potential insurrections and Military/Defense Support to Civil Authorities. However, your scenario using the TEA Party, combined with your credentials as a Seminar Leader at Ft Leavenworth, has a high potential of causing a major political firestorm on the national level. “

Ever seen a civil war in a nation where over 50% of the population own firearms, and 10% own scoped deer rifles capable of hitting a soldier on guard or checkpoint duty at 400+ yards?
A few thousand active Taliban armed mostly with rusty old AK-47s are tying down how many of our troops, MRAPS, helos, Predators, etc? Are we winnin that one?
Imagine not a few thousand Taliban with old AKs, but millions of soldiers with experience from Vietnam to OIF, armed with scoped deer rifles.

One other rather prominent one, regardless of how one feels about unions--- this really happened: August 25 to Sept. 2nd, 1921 The Battle of Blair Mountain. Warren G. Harding sent Federal troops to stop the war between a vicious sheriff's fiefdom in Mingo County,WV and his private army and the miners. Rednecks-- the term for miners who wore red bandanas for recognition.
A very long way from the Covenanters of 1640s Scotland who rejected rule by Presbyterian bishops, who signed their manifestos in blood and wore red cloth around their necks to identify to each other. But in the same spirit and sign for independence.

Have these people ever looked at a Tea Party? These are the same people you meet in Church on Sundays. They're the people who work as Home Room mothers and Cub Scout leaders.
Big Sis and Homeland 'Security' might not understand middle class heterosexuals with children and grand children but they need to open their hearts to people like us. Janet and her liberal goons prefer gay men and dyke women - with all the body parts pierced. But some of us aren't 'Occupy' types. We're traditional Americans and we don't take over cities. We take out chicken sandwiches from Chick-fil-A.
It's time for liberal elite totalitarians to come to grips with reality and grow up.

This is a fantasy land optimization. So what happens when Americans learn that the military equipment is EMP susceptible. Also that they have no plan for pot shots with a .338 or above.
There is also no factor for US troops standing with citizens, no matter how starved. Starving is the goal to cause the emergency. No joke! Watch and learn! People that fail to seek GODS Righteousness and truth.
History repeats itself again and again!

I suspect if patriots ever had to take control of US territory the army would already have essentially dissolved due to total devaluation of the dollar.
And, if the army did come to assert control I suspect they would be warmly welcomed by those same patriots.

BINGO!! That was my suspicions exactly. Even if he would have written about war-gaming against OWS, it probably wouldn't have been published. Ya know, like in the terrorist training films that only show white folks as terrorist and rioters? Permission to throw out a dose of reality, folks? Thank you. If the government wanted to use military force RIGHT NOW against TEA party types, they could just do it, and the only REAL response we'd have is with votes on election day. Most of us are in no physical shape to muster up enough collective force to go up against even the few in the military ranks that would shoot us. And you know the fifth-column scribes (AKA media)would be there cheering them on. When the military does war-gaming, it's usually against known or anticipated threats in the present or future. You, me and everyone else knows what's been going on in this country and what could and would happen if suddenly government checks would stop showing up, not clear the banks or worse - no place to cash them. In short, the cities would burn. Of course there would be those among us so inclined to help put out those fires by donating buckets of gasoline, but the rest would just back off and let the military 'restore order'. Always keep in mind the Ace card us bitter-clinger types hold over this government: They need us more than we need them. Think about it. The groups this government panders to these days can't even take care of themselves, let alone the country. If you left them to run free, how long would the infrastructure hold up? The answer to that question can be found at any OWS campsite. So to conclude: Yes, the powers-that-be may want to keep us in check, but they don't need to waist time war-gaming against us.

I know you're just kidding around, but when I see people bring this up, I remind them that a lot of Red States have plenty of Democrats, and a lot of Blue States have plenty of Republicans, and calling for a Civil War means you're going to impose your will on one group of people or another, which is very un-American.
And you have states like Texas where whites make up less than half the state, and Hispanics will soon be the predominant race (if they aren't already). That right there is a state that is not going to secede in the fantasy world of a third Civil War (since the American Revolution was the original Civil War).

The guy who wrote the article is probably just trolling, because there is no way he could be so stupid as to believe that the Tea Party movement would become a bunch of statist things and there is no way the many Christians in the Tea Party movement would ally themselves with an anti-Christian group like the Ku Klux Klan.
