Polls opened Tuesday morning across Michigan for the state's primary election, with voters making choices including a Republican to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
About 20 percent of Michigan's 7.33 million registered voters are expected to cast ballots.
Officials told 24 Hour News 8 they expect 10-15 percent of Kalamazoo voters and 20 percent of Ottawa County voters to vote.
Pete Hoekstra of Holland has an advantage in money and name recognition over Clark Durant of Grosse Pointe as they duke it out for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination. The race also includes former Kent County Judge Randy Hekman of Grand Rapids. Gary Glenn's name appears on the ballot, but he earlier dropped out.
Voters also could change history by dropping one or both of the state's two black congressmen.
And voters in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties are voting on a millage to support the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Stay with 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday night for full election results. See results as they come in on woodtv.com and onPolitix and tune into WXSP at 10 p.m., WOTV4Women at 11 p.m., and WOOD TV8 at midnight for details.

I was hopeful that Jack Hoogendyk would defeat RINO Fred Upton, but am less so now. I do with the Senate nominee against Debbie Stabenow well, but it doesn’t look good. I guess for Republicans, a big race is whether Nancy Cassis’s write-in campaign will defeat the Libertarian who’s on the ballot.
Currently
Hoekstra, Pete GOP 36,012 55%
Durant, Clark GOP 20,722 32%
Hekman, Randy GOP 4,810 7%
Glenn, Gary GOP 3,842 6%

No surprise there, even though I like Clark Durant.
Also, if there are any MI county or state legislative primaries you think are notable, feel free to update us on them.
State house races here.
Name ID is the key to MI; many there are too uninformed to know who is running for what.
I’ve got a good congressman (Walberg) who is currently leading with some 77%.
I voted for Durant but will be fine with Hoekstra.
Mostly I’m watching the Tigers Yankee game.
Hoekstra as expected is the Senate nominee. He took a hit a while ago over that stupid ad but his chances aren’t much worse than Glove’s in the State.
Upton has won big like the recent poll showed.
More horrible news, the pro-choice Paulbot Kerry Bentivolio appears to have won over the write in campaign of Nancy Cassiss creating an opening for the well funded second tier Muslim rat.
We could have done better but I can live with Hoekstra and despite the idiotic screeching about Bentivolio, he’s got some great conservatives backing him.
We moved the ball forwards, not as much as I would have liked but its still an advance.
21.5 hours without an impy peep. I can hear crickets now at my puter. For real.
Course I got the winders open.
The TV ads and the mail are intense in CT=5 primary. A blizzard of attack ads. Roraback is gonna lose. Cuz he is swinging back hard, so he knows he is in trouble.
I’ve read a rat super pac is gonna run an ad against him, before the primary.
