The U.S. Senate race in Indiana remains a dead heat between Democratic Congressman Joe Donnelly and Tea Party-backed State Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Hoosier State finds Mourdock earning 42% of the vote, while Donnelly draws support from 40%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate in the race, but another 15% are still undecided.

The same poll shows Obama trailing by 16 points here. Indiana hasn’t been as affected by demographic and sociological change as other midwest states, but it’s still been affected.
Also, I’d like to point out that the state is posting a budget surplus. I know a lot of conservatives aren’t thrilled at the idea of Mitch Daniels being VP, but he’s been a very successful and conservative Governor (no tax rate raises and right-to-work).
Too close for comfort. I really hope Mourdock wins. If he loses it will give the RINOs more ammunition — “see look, the Tea Party guys just can’t win, they’re too extreme, you need to support the established mainstream candidates”, etc.
If Mourdock could keep Romney’s Mittbots away from him he’d probably take a serious lead.

Daniels just accepted the presidency of Perdue University...I don’t think he’d do that if he was in the mix for VP.
Why would that matter? Romney in the same poll leads 51-35 over Obama.
This is not a shock. Joe Donnelly was always going to be a formidable candidate. And there is no doubt that many Lugar people are working behind the scenes to help defeat Murdock. WHAT DID YOU SAY, MONTAG? Yep...I said it. Is it really that shocking that the same Dick Lugar that would betray our country by backing the LOST Treaty would think twice about helping a Democrat take his seat over a true conservative?
Didn't he (as an incumbent) nearly lose his House seat to a fairly unknown Jackie Walorski last time?
Yep, it was very, very close. And the only reason he won was that the state Dems had jerrymandered his congressional district to include all of the heavily Demo St. Joe County in the previous redistricting. Well, the Pubs had the majority in the legislature this time and they cut his butt out of the action. Elections do have consequences.
The Repubs are running Congressman Mike Pence for Gov this year and he is a lock. There’s no way that Indiana will go for the Obozo again so I suspect the tidal wave will carry Mourdock along with it.
I’ve met Ms. Walsorski several times. Daughter of a South Bend firefighter, accomplished state legislator and usually packs a hand gun. Gotta love that!
