(Reuters) - Senator Harry Reid and the White House may be taking different roads, but when it comes to Mitt Romney and his taxes, the destination is the same. [snip]
The strategy is a familiar one in modern campaigns, with extreme accusations from outside a campaign serving as a way for the campaign itself to highlight its message without embracing the inflammatory rhetoric.
In the 2004 presidential campaign, it was the "swift boat" attack ads that became a central theme in the drive to defeat President George W. Bush's Democratic challenger, John Kerry.
Four years later, when Barack Obama first campaigned for president, some opposition groups challenged his eligibility to run, claiming he was not a "natural born citizen" as required by the U.S. Constitution.
Sometimes the attacks work (2004) and sometimes they do not (2008) and Republicans are banking on Reid's broadside failing.

Let’s see Obama’s social security number.
And his college records.
Genius my arse.
Fer GAWDS sake, can the Democrats at least float to LOW Earth orbit someday????!?
The problem there was that the Swift Boat ads were TRUE unlike the Obama/Reid/Jarrett/Axelrod/Pelosi slander and lies. If Romney hadn't filed for 10 years he'd be in the slammer by now.
THE MEDIA TOTALLY CARRIED OBAMA'S WATER IN 2008 BY DEMONIZING "BIRTHERS."
It will take a full frontal assault on their lies. Every time a person is interviewed and a DNC talking point is used by the "journalist" they need to confront them. John Sunnunu understands this tactic. The media is owned by the DNC and they need to be treated as such every step of the way.
Good for him if he can figure out how to pay as little tax as possible.
Who doesn’t?
I am sure if he had not payed his taxes, the IRS would be all over him already. It has seemed that the IRS is been deeply interested in anyone that made large contributions to his campaign. So, braying asses in the MSM, you don’t think the IRS does it’s job, or what?
The response did not take long....

This is interesting...a direct attack responded with a similar ad.
