Goodnight from Alaska.
Off to bed.

I felt like I did as a 12 year old during the first Moon landing mission. Just wow. Go JPL! Celebrate. You deserve it. This is what humanity was meant to do.
I was a bit older, but I almost feel like a 12 year old now just watching this with my great-nephew (who is almost 12).
It is what humanity was meant to do. God didn't give us these brains and hands and this universe just to live in caves and remain ignorant.

It's the opposable thumbs, kiddo.
Humans rock. We keep carnivores for pets. We land on other planets with our gear.
I expect no less from the baddest species to ever walk a planet in this solar system.

I agree with that. JPL does a damned good job. Wish the rest of the government space efforts were as sterling these days. Come on private sector...

Message from Obama:
You didn’t build that Rover.
You didn’t land that.
To: rlmorel
It’ll be easy for him. We didn’t do it, the government did. Gawd, I despise him.
To: DoughtyOne
Speaking of the private sector - tomorrow the Google logo pops out, and that sucker starts street mapping ;-)

Countdown til
(1) Obama name mentioned
(2) Athiests talk about importance of mission to finding evidence of life and thus by implication nonexistence of god
Woops - both happened before I could finish typing
