Michael Tomasky on the (Possible) Coming Obama Landslide
The Daily Beast ^ | Aug 4, 2012 | Michael Tomasky

Liberals don't want to jinx it. It terrifies the right. And the press would prefer a nail-biter. But the fact is that finding Romney's path to victory is getting harder every day.

There's a secret lurking behind everything you're reading about the upcoming election, a secret that all political insiders know—or should—but few are talking about, most likely because it takes the drama out of the whole business. The secret is the electoral college, and the fact is that the more you look at it, the more you come to conclude that Mitt Romney has to draw an inside straight like you've never ever seen in a movie to win this thing. This is especially true now that it seems as if Pennsylvania isn't really up for grabs. Romney's paths to 270 are few.

I am sure that some here will be very happy if Romney gets defeated.... and by the time they realize that this REALLY means that Obama is reelected, it will be too late.

Romney sucks. Too bad the RNC can’t find it in themselves to support an actual Conservative.

Yes he does but compared to Obama, he is a Saint! Can’t believe that the country will elect this simpleton again!

If that happens, we are doomed as a Country! Surely most people on this planet Earth are not so ignorant as to re-elect this poser.

If they do, I will have lost all hope!

Reminds me of a famous columnist in NYCity who couldn’t understand why Nixon had won, when everyone she knew had voted for McGovern.

Numerous people stated before the primaries that they would not support Romney. Warning signs were abundant... and ignored. He has left such a trail of contradictory statements behind that the Obama PACs will have a field day withering his support with his own words.

I predict that if Romney is elected, he will immediately embrace every “moderate” position and will basically act like a Democrat. The result will be a Democrat Prez in 2016 and the complete marginalization of Conservative and Tea Party voters.

Obama is no simpleton — he and the people behind him have an agenda: the destruction of the US as we know it.

“Surely most people on this planet Earth are not so ignorant as to re-elect this poser.”

We don’t need to go very far, just look at a number of people right here on this website, who will contribute to Obama’s reelection. Every conservative vote not cast or cast for anyone other than Romney IS a vote for Obama.

Then what do you expect of the rest of the people?

Did you give any thought to what happens if Obama is reelected?

Hint: Obamacare will be implemented, think of the SCOTUS, taxes, Constitution, free speech, not to mention the economy...

I don’t see how anyone whom calls himself a Conservative could ever vote for Romney.

Of course! I would not have supported Romney in the primary either but really compared to Obama he is a Saint! Not only do I have to take the lesser of two evils, I have to take someone who at least has a chance of restoring America!

Yeah, nobody but you is smart enough to figure any of this stuff out huh. /s

What I’d like to ask jokers like you is this. After Dole, Bush, Bush, McCain, and now Romney, just how many decades did you expect Conservatives to wait for a reasoned Conservative candidate before telling the party to F O? Three, four, sixteen? Give me a number.

At this point the earliest chance we have to install a Conservative is January 2017, and we all know that isn’t going to happen unless Romney does lose now.

I happen to expect him to win. That means the next real chance we have is January 2021, and that’s only if Romney doesn’t pull a George Bush on us before then. In that case we’re looking at January 2025 or even 2029 at the earliest. Ain’t that just swell! 36 to 40 fricken years after Reagan.

That’s three and a half to four decades with Leftist Republicans and far Left Democrats holding power.

And here you are dancing to the tune of, “Love me, Love me, One more time...” as sung by the GOPe.

Tell us, do you want this nation back or what? If not, just be up front about it and quit this pretend stuff.

Romney will NOT repeal Obamacare. If you think he will, you are going to be sorely disappointed...

After a second term of Obama there WON’T be a country left to take back. Not to mention the Supreme Court, after Obama puts in a few more judges.

Well, you sure are presenting a pessimistic view - really, so many people here supporting Obama? Can’t believe that!

I do worry about those that think that because we have to vote for either Obama or Romney that they will stay home. That does scare me! I find it so hard to believe that Conservatives would actually NOT vote rather than vote for Romney and allow the continued destruction of America! What a grand idea.

Why don’t you be intellectually honest and just change your voter registration to Democrat? Romney is a liberal. You will see if he is elected.

I would say the international situation is too unstable for anyone to be making very confident predictions of how this election might go. If war breaks out in the Middle East, as appears quite possible, then it will drive the economy off the stage or at least become a second major issue (for many voters, of course for conservatives there are already other major issues).

YES, he might just do that and how does that compare to the destruction that Obama will do? Surely you can see the outcome of either not voting or not caring about this election.

I see this as a chance to continue surviving and a chance to correct things in the future or giving up and allowing the reelection of Obama - thus the further destruction of America!
