Chinese Muslim officials as well as students under the age of 18 in the restive northwestern region of Xinjiang are not allowed to fast during the holy month of Ramadan, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
In a bid to clamp down on religious extremism, Communist Party leaders posted guidance on numerous government websites restricting Muslim religious activities, including fasting and visiting mosques, the UAE-based newspaper, The National reported.
The Chinese central government has also asked officials in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region to discourage the local Muslim population to fast, highlighting in particular the health concerns.
The ban has led to exiled rights group to warn of new violence. The World Uyghur Congress warned that the policy would force the Uighur people to resist (Chinese rule) even further, according to The National.
By banning fasting during Ramadan, China is using administrative methods to force the Uighur people to eat in an effort to break the fasting, Dilshat Rexit, the group spokesman, said in a statement.
A statement was also released from Zongland township in Xinjiangs Kashgar district saying the countys committee has issued comprehensive policies on maintaining social stability during the Ramadan period.
It is forbidden for Communist Party cadres, civil officials (including those who have retired) and students to participate in Ramadan religious activities.
The statement, which was posted on the Xinjiang government website, went on to advised party leaders to bring gifts of food to their local village leaders to certify that they were eating during Ramadan, we well statements posted with the educational bureau of Wensu county advising schools to ensure that students eat during the day and do not enter any mosques during the 30 day holy month.
There are around nine million Uighurs, a Turkic speaking and predominantly Muslim ethnic minority in the Xinjiang region, many of whom are shifting the blame onto Chinas leaders, accusing them of religious and political persecution.
In July 2009, Xinjiang was the scene of violent ethnic conflict clashes, when two ethnic groups clashed, resulting in around 200 deaths.
I think Obama has a perfect grasp of history. Muslim history.
To some degree I at least admire China’s willingness to not give a carp about muzzies eternal state of being insulted. At least they went right over the top and swung for the fences insult wise. Oh and I cannot wait for Mark Styeyn to do his bit on how one forces a fasting Uyghur to eat.
The Serbs have a sense of history.
It’s odd that Islamic terrorists are targeting Israel, the US, and other free societies in the West and not China, where Muslims are actually being persecuted.
The Islamist’s “eternal state of being insulted” has long been tiresome. In fact, it’s pathetic. If they had true faith in their cult, I doubt they would be so sensitive.
To the point of the thread, however, I doubt North Korea would object to a fast.
Quote of the Week!!
The Chinese think they can out tough the muslims,
good luck to them, it’s what we will have to do
here eventually.
Bumper sticker on chinese car...
“Uygurs wig me out!”
The ChiComs are trying to keep these 7th Century throwbacks from taking over their country. I am not a fan of China at all. However, I think they nailed this one. They are the only major country that seems to take the Mooselim threat seriously.
But banning the most important religious ritual of the people who for now represent the majority violates the "how to cook a frog" principle. It shows a high level of arrogance. Xinjiang could turn into a Chinese Vietnam (insurgent war, slow bleed out of military capital, and international PR disaster). Me? I'm popping corn and melting butter in anticipation of watching the show.
I don’t know how they do it, but leave it to the Chi-Coms to put the boot to Mohammeds throat...LOL!
Bears repeating.
I imagine it's the same reason the "gays" never picket mosques.
The ONLY thing that China's CCP belives in is anything that allows them to stay in power. They know well that their grasp on control is tenuous, and they do nothing without considering it's impact on their control. China knows that religious fervor is one of the few ways to motivate sufficiently large numbers of people to give them real problems with control. A VERY small percentage of the population has any love for the CCP, and most want them gone... but since they know how to rule with an iron fist, it's not easy to do. But someday, enough small groups will be come one large one, and there's no way that 3-5 million military men will be able to contain 200 million angry Chinese (only 16% of the population... and still the military would be outnumbered 50-to-1). THIS is the ONLY thing that the CCP fears, and it works diligently to prevent any factors that could lead to that inevitable day.
Exactly. And isn't that what is happening here? Two candidates so closely tied in their accomplishments/mindset - so people are choosing party - thinking it will make a difference but EVIL will still be in control!
There is a vast amount of underground churches in China and they ALL have more Truth and strength in them - than 'so called' Christians here do! Their life is literally on the line in China but they never give up - the underground churches continue to grow. Wanting TRUTH and obeying TRUTH is more important to them - it's for eternity. Here they are like DEAD FISH going with the flow and will succumb to evil any day than upset the apple cart or their bank account.
Freedom isn't free but DEAD FISH think it is as that's all they knew. The Chinese never had it but MANY know the 'Freedom there is in Christ' and even under death will NEVER let it go.
The threat of Chinese torture does wonders!
