Governor Terry Branstad and his wife Chris have moved out of the Iowa governor's mansion in Des Moines after black mold was found in their third-floor residence, a spokeswoman said.
Chris Branstad had not been feeling well for a few weeks and suggested her sickness might be caused by something at Terrace Hill, the state-owned mansion that has been home to Iowa governors since 1976.
Tests were done on the mansion and confirmed black mold on the third floor, which was converted into living quarters for the state's governor and family.
"The governor and first lady are fine," Spokeswoman Jenae Jenison said.
Mold has not been found on the first and second floors of Terrace Hill. That part of the Victorian-era mansion remains open for tours by the public.

Are they racists too?
This new ‘crisis’ is just another regulatory hoop. Imagine living in 100% humidity 9 months out of the year. Can anybody say Florida? Yes, it's 95 degrees today and thunderstorms/lightening are happening right now in my neck of the woods.
They'll spend 10’s of thousands of dollars when all the needed to do is find the leak in the duct/heating AC system, disinfect and viola! I just renovated my bathroom. It is completely water tight. Lots of black mold from bad code in the 80's. Mask, bleach and dehumidifiers after demolition did the job prior to new construction.
That’s African-American mold
>>> This new crisis is just another regulatory hoop.
Depends on where you live. Some states are way under-regulated, and others are way over-regulated.
Mold IS a real problem if it is allowed to get out of hand.
I do mold testing and remediation for a living.
I also do water damage restoration... and spraying bleach on it and drying things out doesn’t go far enough.
I often tell my clients that just because you see mold doesn’t mean that you have a problem. But the reverse is also true. Just because you cannot see it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a problem.
As with many things, there are extremes to be found... And i’ve seen both ends of it, both with home conditions and people.
While some dismiss mold problems as the next global warming scare, others will be calling 911 if they see a little black spot on the wall. Unfortunately, on the business side, some try to capitalize on the latter.
As for those who dismiss it, and continue to live in a situation that is truly a problem... They are the ones that end up developing severe allergies, asthma, or worse.
Don’t poop on what you don’t know about.
The correct term is "chegroes."
(whoops, wrong joke)
I’m a Mechanical Engineer AND a General Contractor. I’m not pooping on anything I don’t already know Haas!
Glad you making a living.
I was inside Terrace Hill when Bob Ray was governor.
It’s a very old place.
