I was a young seaman apprentice just out of boot camp. I had just completed 6 weeks of the normal 8 week training course at YN”A” school when I and 8 other classmates received emergency orders in November 1962 to the Naval Communication Station in San Juan to relieve/assist Radiomen process flash traffic to all naval units in the area. They gave us interim secret clearances and a typewriter. I’ll never forget the sea of endless yellow tape.
Port and starboard duty (8 on and 8 off) for two months but since I was a young 18 at the time I managed a LOT of liberty in Old San Juan (mostly on Luna Street) drinking 25 cent beer and cuba libre’s. Wonderful times!
Alas, Obama is no Monroe; he’s not even a Kennedy, and, thanks to this feckless naif in the White House, American political clout is rapidly diminishing worldwide.
The eventual price, when the bill comes due, will be horrendous both for Americans and for world peace.
