I know you mean well but I have never liked the “crime with a gun” mandatory sentences. There are just too many times they could use that against some poor guy who commits some minor accidental crime while carrying legally.
Just don’t go there at all.

Just make it committing a crime with a weapon not legally registered in your family name.
