WOLF REJECTS REPROGRAMMING REQUEST TO FUND THOMSON PRISON EARMARK, BLASTS HOLDER ON RECORD Letter to Holder Cites Examples of Inconsistency and Unlawful Practices Within DOJ Washington, D.C. (July 27, 2012) – Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA), chairman of the House Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations subcommittee, today “unequivocally” rejected a reprogramming request to purchase the Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Ill., long designated by the Obama administration to house Guantanamo Bay detainees.
The Obama Administration last night made the formal request to the chairs of the House and Senate Appropriations subcommittees that fund the Justice Department.
In rejecting the request, Wolf, in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, said that this $165 million earmark, requested by Senator Dick Durbin, “not only was never included in any bill voted upon by the Congress, but Congress has specifically denied and rescinded funding for this acquisition.”
Wolf added that the Executive Order 13457 prohibits agencies from committing, obligating, or expending funds “on the basis of earmarks included in non-statutory source.”
Wolf’s letter states that the original purpose for the acquisition of Thomson was to house terrorist detainees from the United States Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Wolf noted that despite the attorney general’s personal “commitment” not to transfer detainees to Thomson, the Congress cannot trust Holder, the Department of Justice or the administration to abide by that commitment, given its track record of repeatedly ignoring or choosing not enforce U.S. laws. Specifically, Wolf cited the 2009 effort by the Obama administration, strongly advocated by Holder, to secretly transfer and release two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Virginia.

I hope EVERY FREEPER who reads this will share it with everyone on their email lists! This issue of moving GITMO Terrorists to US soil affects ALL Americans! I hope everyone who listens realizes Obama and Holder's goal is to bring GITMO terrorists to “Some Prison In The US” even if they were not placed in the prison in Illinois! So this decision would affect everyone living in ANY state! And remember GITMO Terrorists have all the comforts at GITMO while our own soldiers serving sentences for doing their job in war, sit in the terrible lack of comforts in Leavenworth!!

I do not expect Obama supporters to listen, because most of them want to remain believing in Obama, no matter what he has been doing with his Executive Orders!! Yes, I am sending this to all my Liberal family members and friends! If they get upset with me, so be it! James and I swore to each other that we will do everything we can to get Obama voted out of our White House and continue to support our US Military!
National Security is really the most important issue, with economy being second! And Obama plans most of “his cuts” to be in National Defense/Military!! Without National Security we would have no economy!!! And now ask yourself, “Who's side is Obama on when it comes to the enemies of America and Israel?”

it’s unlikely that any of those dear misled folks would endanger any illinoisan by getting out, but still. it would be a tempting target for extremists. it would also be a cash cow for broke illinois, funneling all those federal funds in. the devil would be in the details i guess. me, i have just split illinois for maryland, so if they want to send all in gitmo to illinois, i say let them do it.
Trouble is, they wouldn’t put the GITMO detainees in Illinois as they promised they wouldn’t. But if the Feds bought the Illinois prison, they would empty a prison in Maryland, put those prisoners in the empty Illinois prison and then put the GITMO terrorists in the prison in Maryland.
What would you think about that? And remember, the cost to the citizens is more in tax dollars to secure the prison than the jobs it would bring to the area. Plus, the jobs would be “government jobs”.
well i wonder how washington dc would like having that at their back door.
