Chicago Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno announced this week that he will block Chick-fil-A's effort to build a store in his trendy ward after hearing that Chick-fil-A's president, Dan Cathy, had stated in an interview that he believed in marriage as between one man and one woman.
Cathy was quoted July 16 in the Baptist Press saying he was "guilty as charged" for supporting "the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."
Chick-fil-A also is closed on Sunday, another fact that bothers liberals who believe Cathy is one of those bitter people who "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them," as candidate Obama once described middle America.
Oddly, Cathy's views were once echoed by President Obama. "I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian ... it is also a sacred union," was candidate Obama's response to evangelical pastor Rick Warren in April 2008 during a presidential campaign forum.
