The Air Force is mum.
This reminds me of the song “Get It Right Next Time” by Gerry Rafferty. I was on the beach tonight on the Outer Banks in North Carolina (water is like bathwater by the way) and I heard nothing about this until I read it here tonight on the Free Republic.
Well I have some time in the middle seat of C-130’s and I can tell you once the pilot realized he was going to make a short field landing, he was grabbing brakes and hitting reverse thrust all 3,500 feet. Short field landing can be fun but change your underwear afterwars, if you are in with a rookie pilot!
Probably a National Guard pilot. (I’m still mad at them for dropping me in the trees.)
Well, at least they found the ground!
I don’t know the situation today, but National Guard pilots used to be the better pilots.
They were active duty pilots that continued flying for decades in the Guard
“Well, at least they found the ground!”
Capt. Gravity makes sure that they never fail to find the ground.
Well we always said in NAVY: “That a aircraft landing is nothing more than a controlled crash!”
That’s “Air National Guard” and not “National Guard”. What were you horsing around in the trees for when you belonged out in the field?
I was jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
The pilot of my C-130 somehow got out of formation and was not anywhere near the middle of the DZ.
MacDill's longest runway is 11,421 feet. This airport's longest is 3,405 feet.
Fully loaded, the C-17 needs 8,000 feet to take off. However, "a lot less" when empty, as can be seen here.
DZ Sicily?
(I've never done it, mind you, but I can understand and appreciate why it sometimes happens.)
.
Well, at least they found the ground!
Even a navigator can have hidden talent.
Well. Something on FR that I’ve done; flown into both Peter O. Knight and MacDill. Heck of a difference in everything: Locale, Length, Layout. Heck of a mistake.
At the end of the video they say they took a person or some cargo off the plane and rushed off in a high security caravan. No wonder the Air Force isn’t saying anything.
Any landing is a good landing/
Sounds like Incirlik and Aaona in Turkey we had a Tanker land at Adana, everyone waved and wanted a ride.
LOL.It could have been worse they could have dropped you in the middle of rush hour traffic.
