Sacramento restaurants find loopholes in foie gras ban (Animal Rights Wackos Outraged!)
Sacramento Bee ^ | July 25, 2012 | Chris Macias

The state's July 1 ban on foie gras was supposed to prevent the fatty goose or duck liver from being served at California restaurants. Instead, foie gras has become more popular, and enforcement of the new law has been nearly nonexistent.

Sacramento chefs and others from around California are exposing loopholes in the law, making foie gras fairly easy to find in restaurants despite its blacklisted status. You can find it served at such restaurants as The Kitchen in Sacramento, where foie gras is treated as a complimentary item – not officially for sale and technically, some say, not illegal.

"There's more interest in foie gras now than ever," said Randall Selland, executive chef and owner of The Kitchen. "If you ask to try it, we'll let you have some. It won't be on the menu and there's no extra charge."

*

The widespread flouting of the ban has outraged animal rights advocates.

"They're extremists at this point who are acting outside the law," said Carter Dillard, litigation director for the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

"Their flouting of the law shows they're out of the norm, and that's consistent with foie gras production which mutilates and tortures animals to make them taste better. I don't think this will last and it exposes them to liability"

*

"On average, 10 to 15 people are enjoying foie gras on a nightly basis," said Mike Thiemann, Ella's executive chef. "For chefs, it wasn't that big of a deal for a long time. It was just another product, and an expensive one at that. Ten times more people are having it now, for sure."

The leftists are too stupid to understand the Law of Unintended Consequences. As with gun control, when something is proposed for banning, all it does is stimulate sales for that item.

Pathetic fools!

The widespread flouting of the tea tax has outraged British Loyalists.

"They're extremists at this point who are acting outside the law," said Carter Dillard, litigation director for the We Love the King Fund.

"Their flouting of the law shows they're out of the norm, and that's consistent with being a tea tax cheat which deprives the crown of income and make King George cry. I don't think this will last and it exposes them to liability"

Just like Prohibition, when told they can’t do something or have something most people will go out of their way to do it, just because...

If an idiotic constitutional amendment to ban flag-burning is ever passed, you’re going to see the EXACT same thing happen with that, as well.

I understand that if one had to an animal raised for ultimate slaughter, being a goose doomed for Foie Gras was a pretty good way to go.

Geese don’t have a gag reflex so being force-fed is a pleasant experience. Also, the geese get to live a while.

Sounds like the scalpers who used to list a Pittsburgh Steelers Souvenir Stuffed Bear on Ebay for $575, which came along with two complimentary tickets to the Cleveland game...

100% right. I partially started smoking again because of Bloomberg’s smoking ban in parks. I cross the street and light up in the park or on beaches just as a protest against nannystatism.

Sometimes people join me for a smoke and I've converted a few nanny-staters by using this issue as a start.

They should sell “our special house baked buttered rye toast” for $25. The waiter tells the rye toast customers they can ask for some complimentary fois gras if they so wish

Eventually, I would like to see large, quality foie gras farms set up just over the border in Arizona. They could bring in a whole assortment of imported luxury foods and “boutique tobaccos” at much lower cost than in California as well, to make the trip even more profitable.
