A hate crime investigation is under way in D.C. after a gay couples night out ended in a brutal beating.
Michael Hall Jr. has a broken jaw and a fractured cheekbone following the attack Sunday morning. The 29-year-old yoga instructor was operated on at Howard University Hospital Monday.
His parents, Mike and Gail Hall of Colonial Beach, Va., worried for their sons safety when he moved to the District nine years ago.
Every morning, get up and turn Channel 4 news on and see if he was alive or not, who got killed or stabbed, Mike Hall said.
My biggest nightmare was that this would happen eventually, Gail Hall said.
The Halls got the phone call they always feared Sunday morning.
Michael Hall Jr. and his boyfriend, Michael Roike, were heading home from a restaurant just after midnight Sunday when they were ambushed by about five teenagers in the Eckington section of northeast D.C.
Four or five kids just came out of nowhere without any warning, Roike said. We didnt think it was a robbery because they didnt immediately ask for something. They just came out swinging and hitting.
A woman and her boyfriend went to their aid and managed to get them to safety.

Sounds like the problem was a collective IQ of the victims was at the single digit level.
Broken jaw... Real crime.
What a perplexing dilemma for the mainstream media to be faced with.... Should they report the assult because it happened against 2 white homos, or should they bury the story because the perps are Black? Oh the delicious irony of it all!!! I'm pretty sure that protecting the victim status & reverse racism of black minority will win hands down over 2 white homos getting beaten by blacks.
Dupont Circle. And been relatively safer.
Having moved into Arlington in early 2010....I’ve learned a number of things about the DC region over the months.
First, northeast DC is not really the same neighborhood that existed back a decade ago...because yuppies are moving in and picking up houses on the cheap, and renovating the neighborhoods. However....NE DC still has a significant gang and drug problem. Eventually....all of these yuppies will price the neighborhoods out and the gangs will clear...maybe in twenty years.
Second, there are alot of naive individual living in NE DC, and thinking that things are fairly safe. The cop presence in that part of town is not the same as Georgetown. So if a taxi drops you off two blocks from your house in NE DC....like in this case....then it wouldn’t be smart to walk near midnight.
Third and final....just in general...I can’t think of too many neighborhoods in DC, except Georgetown....where it’d be safe to walk in the evening hours. Even the Metro stations in DC are generally unsafe after 10PM on most evenings. The cops do what they can....especially for Georgetown....and the rest of DC is getting marginal service. That’s life in DC. If anyone dislikes it...they can move across the river into Arlington, Fairfax, or Alexandria....and have a Virginia law enforcement presence.
Michael and Michael have issues!
Oh Please! This is your your standard Black on White racial assault and beating. Wouldn’t even rate a notice if the victims weren’t homosexuals. But the Post sees an opportunity to push its “homosexual as victim” agenda. Nonsense.
Some INTENSE weird Yoga

“I thought a gay couple attacked a yoga instructor.”
Yes, that’s what I thought. (It sounds like the plot of a TV murder mystery.)
At least that would be NEWS.
This is just another white person attacked by a gang of black “youths”. Nothing to see here, just move along.
I take it Yoga is not a self defense discipline.
This one looks as suspicious as a potato in Idaho. A bunch of black youths attacked a white couple. Honestly, I would be more surprized if they didn’t attack them. I hope those hoodlums know the OJ lawyer, otherwise they will be spending the next 10 years in a cage.
It wasn’t a robbery, but I witnessed three black guys outside a cafe given a very hard time including racial slurs by about ten Mexicans. The manager called the police, and they arrived about 20 minutes after the gang had left.
Hey! 32% ... huh? huh?
That area of DC - both.
Good place to stay out of. This is off Rhode Island Ave. N.E. and has been a shaky area for years. Not a neighborhood to walk around in at night (unless you are packing heat).
