A gunman who opened fire on an officer at the end of a stolen-car pursuit was killed in Anaheim's second fatal officer-involved shooting in two days, authorities said The shooting climaxed an incident that began around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, when anti-gang officers spotted a known gang member on probation in what they soon determined was a stolen car, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said. They were pursuing the vehicle when the driver lost control on on West Guinida Lane, and two men and a woman bailed.
“The officers were in foot pursuit for about a half-block when one male suspect fired at the officers,” Dunn said.
“The officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was dead at the scene.”
A gun was found next to the body, he said, adding that the second male suspect was detained, but the female got away, and a perimeter search for her was under way. It was not immediately determined if the suspect who fired on officers was the gang member on probation, Dunn said.

When the Germans came to Anaheim the locals (Spanish and Mexican) called the area the German Field.
So, there are people who look quite Mexican up there ~ and since `1830 or before that's where they've lived. This Anna street looks more like a village surrounding a central plaza area or a meadow for the milch cows and goats ~ maybe the chickens.
Then, rebuild of a formerly rural settlement took place some time in the last 60 years and that's what you've got.
The average age of people in that particular community is in the 30s ~ with more than their fair share of late middle aged elders.
That doesn't mean the rest of North Anaheim is as nasty as you imagine, but this area has well kept lawns, bushes, clean streets, no trash,..... and even the local shopping center on LaPalma looks to be in good shape.
So, where were you thinking of ~ give us an address or something.
We seem to have people on the thread who are unfamiliar with the existence of very tanned hispanic communities in the LA basin whose people actually were the first settlers.
They just never moved ~ particularly once the US government certified the Spanish and Mexican landgrants.

For many years there were no grocery stores in DC. Sure, there was a theft problem, but there was also the risk of store managers and staff being robbed and killed leaving the store in the evening, and what customers wanted to shop in DC, where it wasn't safe, when you could drive to Virginia where it was safe and shop in all kinds of stores.

Go play your thinly veiled racism card somewhere else. The descendants of the first settlers in Orange County, the Yorbas and their relatives, are indistinguishable from other Americans.
The latinos involved here are very recent arrivals, they are illegals and their offspring. They have turned north Orange County from the Leave it to Beaver America that it once was into the gang infested and crime ridden place that it has become.

Development of California, particularly in the LA area continues ~ all the water resources are discovered and used for local agricultural development.

Are you questioning the standard history of California taught in state schools just because you've been there 40 years and didn't see it happen, or, you are addressing some issue you've raised in your mind that wasn't raised in the thread?
We have to light a fire under our Republican and Democrat “leaders” concerning immigration. We have to push the pause button on immigration for a while especially immigration from south of the border. They like to talk about the “Hispanic vote”, let them hear from the “not-Hispanic vote” and they will realize which side their bread is buttered on. There are many more of us than them, we are citizens and we VOTE.

Look, I know the neighborhood where the shooting occurred very well. I’ve been through it many thousands of times. I used to have friends who lived walking distance away.
40 years ago Anaheim was white, middle class suburbia carved out of the orange groves that surrounded the original town, which had been settled by Germans in the 1850s. Some of the founding families still lived here. Many of the newcomers worked in the aerospace and defense industries that dominated the Orange County economy. This was the case into the 1980s.
There was a Mexican American population but it was smaller than many outside of California understand. They were assimilated and many of them couldn’t speak Spanish any better than other Americans. There were illegal alien neighborhoods but those tended to be small and well defined. The exception was the city of Santa Ana, which was the first Orange County city to be heavily impacted by mass illegal immigration.
The Reagan amnesty of 1986 didn’t do this area any favor. But for a few years there was a lull, even a drop in the illegal immigrant population. Then they figured out that George HW Bush had no intention of enacting the enforcement mechanisms built into the 1986 law that would have reduced illegal immigration. So the illegal wave picked up.
It really accelerated during the Clinton Administration. This was because NAFTA blew up the rural Mexican farmers who couldn’t compete with American corn prices. So they flooded up here by the tens of thousands. We could have had a chance to reverse this when Clinton left office, but instead we got George HW Bush’s amnesty-pushing Mexico-loving idiot of a son for President, and his solution was to throw gasoline on a raging fire.
What this did was dramatically change the demographics of north Orange County in an amazingly rapid amount of time. Anaheim in particular is majority latino, just as Santa Ana was decades ago. These aren’t Mexican Americans, they are Mexican nationals. Bumper stickers abound that say ‘yo amo Michoacán’ or some other state of the Mexican union. The signage in the area switched from English to Spanish.
Among the other “family values that don’t stop at the Rio Grande” (Dubya) is crime and violence. Gang activity. Graffiti marking gang territory and defacing all the property. North Orange County is now a place most Americans try to leave, when it had been one of the most desirable places for them to move to. And the reason is that it isn’t America anymore. It’s Mexico Norte. A situation aided and abetted by politicians from both parties, may there be a special place in Hell just for them.
Mexican Americans who I know, and I know many, tell me that one characteristic of the Mexican mentality is to “do unto others before they do unto you”. Now I’ve met many generous latinos, but I suspect that there is truth in the other idea as well. There is a low civic consciousness in that population. A suspicion of authority, an opinion that laws are optional, and a pronounced dislike of the police.
The neighborhood where the shooting occurred has been a dangerous neighborhood for decades. Not just undesirable, but dangerous. I first became aware of it 30 years ago when someone who shot a Highway Patrolman was finally caught hiding out on Anna Drive.
In gang neighborhoods gang life is a multi-generational enterprise, with both sexes participating. The policemen who work these neighborhoods aren’t just regular patrolmen, they are cops who know the players and can recognize them on sight. If Anaheim loses to the agitators, one of whom is a female City Council member, the city will be finished. It probably already is. This latest violence is just the death rattle.
The shame is that it didn’t have to be this way. The traitors whom we elect to high office could have done their job to protect the citizens of California from being overrun by illegal aliens. But the politicians didn’t. Instead they listened to swine like Karl Rove who told them that enforcing the law would alienate the latino vote. So to hell with the pinche gabachos, viva La Raza! Just be glad if you don’t live here or have family here. But it will be coming your way soon.
As I recall he was under a lot of pressure from his family to be the first to know Spanish.
They lived in Anaheim. And yeah, to a Midwesterner he looked quite hispanic.

Just reading a piece yesterday about Cajuns (after watching a TV thing on their origin). Although I am very familiar with much of their history there was this thing about SOME Acadian settlers getting sent to the Falklands!
