(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who has backed gun control measures in the past, said on Monday that additional laws would not have stopped last week's massacre in a Colorado movie theater.
"I still believe that the Second Amendment is the right course to preserve and defend and don't believe that new laws are going to make a difference in this type of tragedy," Romney told CNBC's Lawrence Kudlow in an interview.
Both Romney and his opponent, Democratic President Barack Obama, have demurred on the prospect of new gun control laws in the days since a gunman opened fire during a showing of the new "Batman" movie in a Denver suburb early on Friday, killing 12 and wounding 58.
In the interview, Romney said that "very stringent" gun laws already exist in Colorado. Specifically, Romney was asked about laws that might ban the online sale of ammunition or restricting the sales of semi-automatic weapons.

Good for him.
He is just as afraid of gun control as the dims are.
When are we going to read:
The theater owners killed 12 patrons, injured many more. By posting “Gun Free Zone” signs at the entrance to the theater they in essence invited this guy into the movie. The signs in-turn told the perp that the patrons would be disarmed and he, the gunman, would have a target rich environment to kill in.
... 3, 2, 1 ...
Mr. Pander Bear also said that “Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts” during his governorship of that state, speaking of the federal assault weapons ban.
Let’s talk about violent movies and video games.
Actually, it would make a difference. It’d make it worse.
This is what Mitt had to say about guns.
“These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”
The Etch-a-sketch shakes again. He took a different view when he was governor of Massachusetts.
What Romney thinks about guns really doesn’t matter anymore. The issue is DEAD in Congress. The Dems would be lucky if half of the caucus supported new gun laws - and the grabbers would be lucky to get more than 5% of the Republicans to support them.
It’s just a dead issue (thankfully) and there is nothing that Romney can do, even if he wants to grab guns.
Maybe Romney has figured out that criminals don’t obey gun control laws?
He did support the 2nd Amend and right to own and bear arms, and skewered Bill Moyers unmercifully, but his attempts to balance his screed shows his (and others') need to become better informed.
Wait! I thought according to some on Freerepublic Mitt and Obama were the same??? I’m confused.
Sarcasm
LOL.
:D
“Some people cannot accept success for what ever reason. On the gun issue, our side has won a decisive victory. The anti-gunners are in full retreat and we stand victorious on the battlefield. As long as we remain vigilant, there will be no restriction of guns for the foreseeable future. We should analyze what we did right on the issue and apply the lessons learned onto other issues.”
Amen - when even WiFi says it’s off the, it is OFF THE TABLE, damn it!!! We SKUNKED them.
Who needs an assault rifle to rack up a body count?
