Something I have noticed in cases like this. When you see the person after the fact, there is a look of dis-belief, or stunned if you like. Almost as if they don’t understand why they are there. I believe, and this comes from living almost 60 years and having seen it up close and personal, that it is clear proof that evil does exist. That for whatever reason some people open their soul to evil and it enters, causes unspeakable horror, then exits to leave that person to pay for the acts committed. Last thought, while I pray for those affected by this evil, I also feel so sorry for this mans parents. The child that brought them so much joy and hope now causes them pain beyond measure.
Your explanation makes sense. His sudden, almost involuntary confession to police about the booby trapped apartment, followed by silence, struck me the same way.
I don’t feel one bit sorry for the parents. I think we will discover and rightfully so, that they played their part in all of this..
and had they not been in denial and holding up and covering for their Golden Boy every step of the way, the incident may never have happened..ie they could have stopped it.
You KNOW when something isn’t right with one of your kids. YOU KNOW. What you do about it, or in this case, not, measures the level of courage within you and speaks to the core of who you are as a human being, not as an enabling parent.
Well written reply. I agree.
The bizarre thing about these people is that they claim to believe in evil, but they really don’t, because they see themselves as being in control of it and always able to turn away. But evil does exist, and it takes them over because they are stupid and arrogant enough to believe that they can just play their little game and then walk away if things get out of hand.
I don’t know about his parents. Maybe they realized he was insane, and maybe they were trying to get help for him, or maybe not. His mother wasn’t surprised that he was the killer when the police called her.
Nice post, but to put it in other words, his fantasy simply didn’t extend much beyond what he intended to do that night. No wonder he looks so lost.
I have always wondered what part of your brain do you have to shut down in order to follow through with plans for mass murder. You can plan a project for anything. Somewhere along the way you change your mind and just not start your project. This POS didn’t change his mind. He followed through. How does someone do that?
One of the survivors asked a very good question from his hospital bed. Paraphrasing because I don’t have the exact quote, “What was it about your life that was so bad that you felt like you had to go kill innocent people?” Best question I’ve heard from this tragedy.
