A disabled veteran and his service dog were abused by United Airlines staff, he has claimed.
Jim Stanek, a three-tour Iraq veteran suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, said employees of the airline kicked his dog, Sarge, and asked him if he was retarded.
In a YouTube video the Paws and Stripes founder describes his ordeal which began on July 16 at Dulles International Airport in Washington.

Same link as in *Stanek video* ....painful? How so?

How so?
I’ve got a sick feeling in my gut that is a precursor to something very, very bad.
Sorry I duplicated your link, I was busy watching the video and becoming progressively more irate.
All Wounds are not Visable.
My gut tells me it lacks some credibility. FWIW, deep in the vid,as Stanek recounts the 2nd incident of the dog being kicked, I wondered how the UA worker could have done that, if he was driving/steering the people carrier....seems strange to me.
Stanek does not have the same credibility factor I saw in Marcus Luttrell when he was telling his story.
If this is some kind of a ruse to gain sympathy/publicity for his foundation Paws and Stripes...all the work he has done for vets will be asunder. I apologize for being so cynical. I admit I am jaded.
Well ..... I have a great respect for you and usually agree with the comments I see you make. I especially love your keen sense of humor.
That being said, I think we will have to agree to disagree about this. I have found my gut reactions to things like this to be mostly reliable. (I still try never to say never, so I’m open to the possibility you are correct, but my strong inclination is to believe Sgt Stanek.)
I don’t know, of course, what the extent of his injuries were, but I’ve met and known people with head trauma before. I’ve seen similar twitches and grimacing expressions. I did not read into that any attempt to deceive.
I will allow for the possibility that he may be somewhat confused about events, but I can say that I’ve experienced similar rude behavior with certain airline employees myself. And I’m not disabled or in need of special assistance.
I have a suspicious nature about certain things just as you do. but my suspicion runs more along the lines of wondering if the employee who kicked the dog was a Mohammedan, as they are notoriously “offended” by any canine presence. (A reaction, no doubt to feeling humbled in the presence of a nobler being.)
WOW!!!
Thanks! That comment made my morning.
The headline should read, “Disabled Vet Jailed For Beating The Living $hit Out Of UA Staff For Kicking His Dog”.
But maybe that’s just me......
I’m glad I could help.
I don’t suppose she’s down there begging for absolution, eh?
Need some firm evidence. It is ridiculous to bring forward such accusations without it, especially on youtube.
Think they'd wanna kick *him*?
I am doubting right beside you.
(18 plus minute video?!)
This man STARTS complaining about his dog not eating after a four hour span, if I understand correctly. If his dog is in dire need of food after four hours—he doesn’t need to be any part of Paws and Stripes. HE is NOT a responsible pet owner.
My dogs eat at 6-8am depending on their persistence verses my sleepy-headed self. The mister is home by 8 am and chow is certain by that time. They eat again at 4 pm and I can’t tell you how but they absolutely without a doubt know it is dinner time. They TALK not bark but TALK until I feed them. They could skip a meal the same as myself, if it is/was necessary.
I cook my dogs food but I would give them a burger if it was din-din time and they had missed a meal or two and I had nothing else to offer. Though, I would need to be more tuned into potty cues for sure!!! That wouldn’t be convenient. I have a rescue pup that has cost a bundle with her heat issues, that is where my cooking for the dogs started—I learned it is actually cheaper!
I have a hard time believing TWO employees were so “startled” by his dog that they kicked it?! Not once but TWICE. In front of the master and the world?! A vest wearing service dog? A employee kicked it and somebody didn’t video it and load it to youtube? The employees are that brazen and care so little for their jobs and critters that they would do such a thing?
Also, anybody kicks my dog when it is not attacking— I am on your azz like white on rice. That just isn’t going happen. I don’t care if I never fly again. You don’t touch my children and you don’t kick my dogs. That would make me very, VERY unreasonable! This military man dosn’t even say anything to the “gentleman”?!
“I didn’t feel like anybody cared” —isn’t that a mistake? I generally assume nobody gives a chit and the rest is gravy. If I vote for them, they better care or I don’t vote for them again. If I pay, care or I don’t give you my money again.
PSTD doesn’t just happen to military, I adore and love our military—my family knows a little bit about military and PSTD. I think this fella is trying to taking advantage of the situation and he is doing paws and stripes no favors.
The guy is a squirrel and in my opinion he comes off as dishonest. I don’t like him.
There—my 18 minute response.
I have a traumatic brain injury [TBI] and understand the frustration of which Stanek speaks. If I were handed papers as he was, I know I would not be able to read and comprehend them in a timely fashion as I once was pre-TBI. Even if asked a simple question, I sometimes can't answer right away...and need to pause to process it B4 I can answer ..yeah...at times I appear to be *retarded*.
I think he was very good about recalling the events [in my brand of TBI...it would be impossible for me]...I was listening to the video, more than watching it [open in another tab], doing other stuff, so I didn't really pick-up on much facial stuff. I would have been cursing and swearing *long* B4 he did in all of this....I have no patience for stupid. Restraint be damned!
I did re-watch his cell phone video of the dog: Cell phone footage of Sarge at the airport after being kicked can be seen at 15:42.
I'd like to see what our *resident* dog-expert Salamander thinks; darling Sarge seems to be dreaming in the video [which would explain her respiration and shaking] ...which is why I think Stanek is somewhat exaggerating Sarge's trauma after being kicked. [**You can see that she is shaking like a leaf, her respirations [sic] are out of control, after having been kicked twice and spending all that time in the airport.**]
All that being said...God Bless Mr. Stanek and Sarge and Paws and Stripes. NO ONE should ever, ever be treated like that.
**You cant see all my wounds but I still feel like I need to be treated appropriately. I'm not asking for a red carpet, but just treat me the way that I need to be treated.** Amen to that. I hope the proper channels are being accessed in all of this....heads should roll.
I don’t think I feel as strongly as you do, but I think it is kinda strange b/c I assume he is a frequent flyer....but I would know not to keep my essential meds in my checked in bag for fear it could be lost.
