Investigators track Colo. shooting suspect's ammo shipments
CBS News ^ | July 21, 2012 | by Bob Orr

(CBS News) Sources say investigators have found key evidence in dumpsters and trash bins outside of James Holmes' apartment, including a shipping label from an internet ammunition store called BulkAmmo.com.

Investigators also tell CBS News they have recovered a surveillance video of James Holmes picking up approximately 150 pounds of ammunition at a Federal Express outlet in Colorado.

They've interviewed a UPS driver who says Holmes had 90 packages delivered to his workplace on the University of Colorado medical campus.

And sources say over the past several months, Holmes spent about $15,000 as he was putting together his deadly arsenal -- guns, chemicals, explosives, and ammunition.

"Through the Internet he purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition, more than 3,000 rounds of. 223 ammunition for the assault rifle, 3,000 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition for the two Glocks in his possession and 300 rounds for the 12 gauge shotgun."

Holmes did most his shopping on Internet sites. And he was clearly in a hurry.

A receipt from TacticalGear.com shows on July 2 -- two-and-a-half weeks before the shootings -- Holmes purchased a bulletproof vest and other equipment. He paid extra to have it shipped by 2nd-day air.

“Student loan” ?

Nobody in this country does anything alone, they all have help from the government. He even had internet, postal delivery and a road in front of his house - all thanks to the government

The witness accounts I read stated he was seated, got up and left through that door but propped it open (so as to be able to get back in) and then returned. I tend to believe that as you would notice someone propping a door open since one tends to notice anomalies.

Did no one at the University question him about the 90 UPS
packages marked as hazardous materials shipments???

All of which were not related to work !

Speaking of the chance he used student loan money...

A friend sells new cars at a car lot.

In pops a 20ish young man who has no job, no income stream, no credit, but wants to buy a brand new vehicle.

When questioned, he said no problem, I have student loan money to pay for it.

Good speculation there, guys.

All you need is a small wedge of wood to keep the latch from engaging.

“Holmes spent about $15,000”

Which begs the question- who was bankrolling this guy?

Good question - More than meets the eye here I think...

This is why the authorities are being so careful about opening up his apartment. There is surely much evidence in there.

Probably used a student loan to fund these purchases.

This happened in mid-April and we’re just now finding out? No description of those arrested either. Maybe the *investigative* team will persue this further. Yeah, when pigs fly.

Two likely sources:

Student loans ($20,500 / year avail to grad students)
Credit cards

the guy was a recent college grad and undoubtedly got a sh!tload of credit card offers.

Good evening.

Why does cbs "feel" this is important? It's not like where did the terrorist obtained RDX, Semtex or C4. Did cbs do a story on where did Maj Hassan get his ammo?

Seesh, I think I need another 1000 rounds of 5.56mm.

FUEH, FUJN, FUBO...

5.56mm

We have all been in situations to witness anomalies. We have been programed to say nothing, but we do file them away in our minds.

These days any anomaly needs to be questioned.
