Cinemark owns the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, scene of last night’s mass shooting. Cinemark doesn’t allow anyone other than law enforcement officers to carry legal firearms in their theaters. The ban hadn’t escape the attention of some of Cinemark’s law-abiding, gun-toting customers—even before last night’s homicidal frenzy. A friend and I decided to go see Law Abiding Citizen [in Anchorage Alaska] after attending a local 2nd Amendment organization Banquet. We were already open carrying from the Banquet so we didn’t bother putting on our jackets. We made our way into the theater and stood in line to purchase our tickets, so far there wasn’t any problems.I was OCing my 1911, my friend was OCing his G22, and we purchased our tickets and made our way to the theater so we could get good seats. As we near our theater two managers a male and female come out of nowhere and the conversation goes something like this . . .
Manager: Excuse me guys but firearms are not allowed in here, you’ll have to put them in your vehicle.
My friend: Really when did that happen, I’ve carried here many times with no problem, well we’d like to see your policy on that please!
Manager: Okay come with me
We followed the manager up to the ticket counter and he showed us this small cardboard sign that said “NO FIREARMS ALLOWED” at the very bottom. We told the manager that we wished to receive a full refund and we would not be returning to the theater in the future. He said nothing, and we were given our refunds with no further problems . . .
We ended up going to a shopping mall that has a theater inside and we were able to see our movie without being asked to leave . . .
This is indeed the slight inconvenience we put up with, but I really feel if enough people got behind this “no guns = no money” that businesses would change their policies real quick. However I don’t see that happening anytime soon because most people are too lazy to take a stand.
Over at forum.opencarry.org, commentator thx997303 also had words with Cinemark about their weapons policy, this time at the corporate level.
I sent an e-mail to Cinemark Corporate to inquire as to their policy on firearms.I got a call today, from Dan Myers with Cinemark Corporate, and he informed me that Cinemark’s official policy is that ONLY LEO’S CAN CARRY INTO THEIR THEATERS
NO CONCEALED WEAPONS, NO OC.
He asked me that we not send e-mails to tell them their policy sucks.
There are other similar encounters on the net. Suffice it to say, gun owners should think twice about giving their money to companies that don’t respect their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. And think even more carefully about being in crowded public places where they can’t carry.
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

If guns are not allowed, there is a presumption of duty to provide security by the cinima company. I don't see where you have to have a permit to sue the cinima for lack of security. Sue them. And hound the politicians when libetal company owners lobby to get laws exempting them from responisibility. All of a sudden these no gun policies will disappear.
The same goes when a liberal company fires an employee who packs and stops a robber. they have a no guns policy by provide no security. Sue them if you are injured in their store by a robber.
No-Gun posters have been moved to prominent locations in my post office. (Worried about the folks going “postal,” due to budget cuts?)

Carrying in movie theaters at night is a very good idea. Flash mob beat downs, drug addled psychos, and events such as this could be avoided and/or minimized by law abiding prepared citizens.

Why would anyone care or give a moment’s thought to what some theater’s “firearms policy” is? Unless you will be walking through metal detectors, or pat-down, why wouldn’t you be armed?
In this day and age, with active shooter Mumbai incidents, Virginia tech, etc, with Muslim terrorist scum coming over, with break down of the American family, morals and values trending downward, the rule of law slipping, and law of the jungle rearing it’s ugly head, you should be armed period. And don’t forget the blades.
Any Dallas area FReepers want to FReep Cinemark HQ on Sunday afternoon? Their policy makes their theaters unsafe.

Well obviously they made an exception in this case.
I always admire a company willing to “bend, for customers demands”, as these guys, obviously, are willing to do.
I carried in a Carmike cinema today (the new Batman movie really is good).
That is a very good point, if they are not going to permit people the means to defend themselves they are accepting responsibly for their protection.

In Texas. Even in Texas the 30.06 sign only applies to those with CHLs. Like others have said, don't see them very often, espeically at retail establishments. When Taco Cabana was bought by a company from NEW YORK CITY, they put up the signs, but apparently they didn't know how big the signs had to be, and so the signs had no legal effect. They never did put up the large legal sign, and before long took down the others.
You do see the TABC, (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) sign, but it says "without a license, or "sin licencia". Every time I see one, think "yo tengo licencia", or "I have a license".
Well the one for places that make >51% of their sales from booze does ban both possession with and without a license. But you ought not to be going into bars when you're carrying anyway.
IF this is true about this theater chain. IF just one person that was in that crowd of injured or dead had a CCW permit and wasn’t carrying in accordance with the theater’s policy....then they should sue this business completely out of business.
I know the Lamestream Press has been saying that someone armed in the theater could not have stopped the carnage, but I beg to differ. IF someone was licensed that was within close range of the shooter, and they weren’t carrying because of that business’ policy, then they could have saved lives.
Also, when a business exercises their perogative to disarm citizens otherwise armed, then they assume FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY AND PROTECTION OF THE CITIZEN. The moment they disarm someone, and they are hurt, the theater MUST and SHOULD be held liable in civil court...seriously so.

Um. I know a spa owner who has an employee that does a lot of these, but I don’t know how many strips you need, let alone wax.

AMC has kinda slunk into a rut, entertainment wise for us...We have one right around the corner from us...It is a nice facility, and I of course ignore their non-compliant signage restricting my ability to carry a firearm inside their facility because of its non-compliance to state law...
We’ve been discussing and arguing about the 30.06 signage for years in some of the other forums I visit on gun issues, and for the most part I try to avoid places where their intent is to create these “gun free zones” that criminals and other malcontents can exploit like what was done in Aurora earlier today...
This news you bring somehow doesn’t surprise me, but it does help me determine where I will be spending my entertainment dollars...And it would most likely not be at AMC unless someone else is paying our way.../sarc
I still believe we should take a long hard look at who advertises at Cinemark theaters, and press them hard to re-evaluate their position and find other places to advertise their goods and services...Most are local companies in that area around the theater anyway, so that kinda makes it easier...
Plus there is a large, local church that has satellite worship services at that same AMC theater...
I just feel that today, a senseless act, as not processed in the correct way by the media, or anyone in politics today and the first knee-jerk reaction was to once again tout the liberal/progressive agenda to take away our right to keep and bear arms as the only solution...
