Warner Bros., the studio releasing The Dark Knight Rises, is considering whether to cancel screenings across the country after a massacre took place at a midnight screening in Colorado that left 12 moviegoers dead in the early hours of Friday.
Executives at the Hollywood studio were gathered at the Burbank offices from the middle of the night, struggling with whether to alter roll-out plans for the second-biggest release in movie history.
An executive told TheWrap that Warner was watching the situation and still considering whether to take further measures beyond cancelling the Paris premiere, including cancelling screenings at theater chains.
The executive said they would be making decisions on Friday and throughout the weekend as they conferred within the studio, monitored news reports and spoke to theater chains.

Aww Shucks. With over 22,000 gun control laws they couldn’t prevent it.
With a US Atty Gen trying to finish off the 2nd Amendment by getting 300 people killed, they couldn’t prevent it.
Even with that Jacka** Ted Turner editing the violence out of Looney Tunes, they couldn’t prevent it.
So let’s not ever release a Movie with on screen Guns again.
And while we’re at it, just to make Turner happy, let’s not ever release a movie with Anvils or falling Pianos again.
Maybe we should recall every copy of Who Killed Roger Rabbit too, just to make certain. There’s far more here than we yet know.
Keep your eyes open for his mom to rattle off about how he was getting help managing his issues with a counselor or some such crap.
“66 School Shootings/Incidents Involving SSRIs
Most of the stories on this site describe events that occurred after the year 2000. The increase in online news material and the efficiency of search engines has greatly increased the ability to track stories. Even these 4,800+ documented stories only represent the tip of an iceberg since most stories do not make it into the media. There are 115 cases of bizarre behavior, 66 school shootings/incidents, 68 road rage tragedies, 19 air rage incidents, 101 arson cases, 70 postpartum depression cases, over 1,000 murders (homicides) or murder attempts, over 300 murder-suicides (30% committed by women) and other acts of violence including workplace violence on this site. There are also over 100 Journal Articles and FDA reports listed in the Index. They are at the top of the Index immediately below the 66 school shootings/incidents and the 29 “won” criminal cases.”
We are literally Drowning in this Happy Pill filth.
Copy cats live in the woodwork? I thought they were under the bus?!
That is what might be called successful Terrorism.
I am saddened by the victimhood culture that permeates our society. Warner Bros. could have added a buck to the ticket prices hyped up the intensity of the movie and advertized that they had armed guards at the theater to prevent more crackpots, but that was another decade when Jack Warner still breathed.
Good point.
What message is that? That terrorizing people works...give in to fear? Do you really think a movie caused this, and not that the guy is a f’n psycho?
If you run the film backwards, you can actually hear Batman solemnly intone: "I buried Aquaman."
The perp is a nut and the message to Warner Bros and Hollywierd is we don’t want your crap.
Hollywood has been marketing mass murder and deviance for a decade or more. Clearly, kids that grow up playing murder-games, watching the outright vile filth that sometimes is belched out the distal end of hollywood’s bowels, are often prone to mimic deviant, murderous and disgusting behavior. The negative impact on kids is readily apparent. Anyone who thinks that a child’s environment has no effect on his behavior is living in a dream world.
So you saw the movie?
“Warner Bros. Considers Cancellation of Dark Knight Rises Screenings”
Sorry but that’s just dumb. I just came back from seeing it. Nothing bad happened. Some good action sequences but I don’t think it was as good as the first two. Anne Hathaway looks great in skin tight black leather!
I think a better recommendation would be to cancel the rest of the obama presidency out of respect for the dead economy.
And I mean no disrespect to the families of the dead and injured. It was a horrible tragedy, but clearly this was the act of a deranged individual, not the fault of the movie.
If you honestly think the media has no influence on people and their behavior, I have an ad to sell you for a boat in the Sahara. Do you think public opinion is swayed by the wind?
How about we let the market decide?
You don’t want it, so don’t go. You don’t speak for me or millions of people. It’s a movie, not real. Most people aren’t psychotic murderers.
Your tired cliche of passing blame from parents to Hollywood, schools, little green men from mars is idiotic.
When the real-life shooter is dressed up as the fictional screen villain, I don’t know how anyone can claim there’s no connection. There IS a damn connection-same as the legion of spree killers inspired by Natural Born Killers and the juggalo attacks and murders by idiot feral teens in the Insane Clown Posse “family.” This isn’t the first murder inspired by this franchise either: remember the Dendermonde nursery attack when Kim De Gelder, dressed as the joker stabbed two babies and a teacher to death. This Dark Knight/Joker thing is nothing more than demonically inspired torture porn-I have no interest in seeing it or polluting my children’s minds with it. Life often imitates art.
Why?
You sound as deranged and self serving as the lunatics who are trying to use this to push their agenda of banning guns.
Haha, I’m going to do that while playing Judas Priest backwards as well. Our moral police are just as annoying as the PC police.
