Warner Bros. Considers Cancellation of ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Screenings
The Wrap ^ | July 20, 2012 | Sharon Waxman

Warner Bros., the studio releasing “The Dark Knight Rises,” is considering whether to cancel screenings across the country after a massacre took place at a midnight screening in Colorado that left 12 moviegoers dead in the early hours of Friday.

Executives at the Hollywood studio were gathered at the Burbank offices from the middle of the night, struggling with whether to alter roll-out plans for the second-biggest release in movie history.

An executive told TheWrap that Warner was watching the situation and still considering whether to take further measures beyond cancelling the Paris premiere, including cancelling screenings at theater chains.

The executive said they would be making decisions on Friday and throughout the weekend as they conferred within the studio, monitored news reports and spoke to theater chains.

the second you start holding anything but the shooter even slightly responsible you are removing ultimate culpability from him.

False. There are nearly always contributory factors/causes rather than a single one. No one, not named Obama, lives in a vacuum. And my contention, again, is that there were manifestly traceable external influences, while he remains accountable for his actions. This concept is not hard or normally controversial.

The mom apparently knew her kid was nuts well enough to be able to tell the cops with scant information that they got the right guy. Nothing lame about pointing that out.

For whatever reason you're not following me; I know this from this quoted response and others I'm not bothering with that inform me you've missed my points. So we're just waisting our time.

Those of us who remember when movies were not so violent or pornographic can see the danger. Younger folks have lived their whole lives with these movies and see them as the norm—and they can’t help but see what the movies portray as the norm as well.

“Pushing the envelope” and the greedy desire to be edgy are ruining our culture.

Yes, of course the media has no influence on behavior. I am Shocked to think people actually believe such nonsense. What influenced people to vote Bo into office.

I never said that the media has no influence on people, and I don't see anyone else sayign that either. It's just that there are some sort of truthers on here that think influence=force.

The media/hollywood doesn't FORCE people to believe anything and the media/hollywood doesn't FORCE people to shoot up movie theaters.

Unless of course you prefer to live in a world where your tv & dvd player talk to you personally and command you to do things. I have a feeling that there are several Freepers who believe that their tv's and dvd players FORCE and issue Commands directly to individual people to do things.

So what explains the ultra-violent and bloody societies of Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the PA of the West Bank et al? They have banned all western movies, rocknroll, pornography, alcohol, etc and yet they are not shining examples of peace and tolerance.

If it's all the movies and video games fault how do you explain ultra-violent murderous societies where they don't have those things?

Saudi Arabia is an “ultra-violent and bloody society”? Please show us links presumably so well known to you listing the crime rate of Saudi Arabia, thank you in advance.

You sound like a libertarian, the kind who resist any claim that marijuana is harmful.

Recognizing the harm something can do is not the same as advocating it prohibition, so don't worry, you'll still be able to get your kicks killing hookers in video games and watching comic-book superhero movies.

Most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi Arabian, 15 of the 19 in fact.

and you sound like an ostrich-with-head-in-sand liberal, one who wants to ban all guns because you believe that by banning all of one thing will stop human behavior & evil from adapting to the next thing.

Really? I bet nobody ever knew that about the 9/11 hijackers.

You make unsupported assertions and then change the subject when challenged.

Right! We will consider it, but no way in hell are we gonna DO it!

They have been making money off the masses for a long time now. It would be stupid for them not to use what works so well at making millions of dollars. That is what they are in business for.

"Every theater should cancel the showing of the movie."

I say if were gonna do it let's do it.

By Executive Order ALL public gathering places, shopping malls, stores, banks, movie theaters, restaurants, opera houses, etc. are closed until further notice by order of the President of the Untied States.

Seriously we need to nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

(Or we could add a little sanity to the situation and realize the nutjob is in custody and go about living our lives...)

I’m changing no subject. You’re attempting to deflect & redirect.

I was asked to provide examples of an ultra-violent society in regards to Saudi Arabia. There were 15 of 19 spree killers born and raised in Saudi Arabia. Mass murdering spree killers just like this theater spree killer.

So far neither SandRat nor Revolting cat! have answered my questions. You are the ones attempting to change the subject:

So what explains the ultra-violent and bloody societies of Iran, Packistan, Saudi Arabia, and the PA of the West Bank et al? They have banned all western movies, rocknroll, pornography, alcohol, etc and yet they are not shining examples of peace and tolerance.

If it’s all the movies and video games fault how do you explain ultra-violent murderous societies where they don’t have those things?

Nutters do live in a vacuum. That’s one of the things we’ve learned, sociopaths are born not made, it’s in the genes. All “external influences” do is give the flavor. One sociopath decides to be Taxi Driver, another shoots up a school, some join the mob, there all still sociopaths.

You don’t have a point. Your blaming the stuff for the man. Your position IS a waste of time. You’re doing the same crap the left did to US 18 months ago. I notice you keep studiously avoiding that point. Go ahead, show how what you’re saying now is substantively different from when the left started touting Tea Party posters after Loughner. I’ll spot you the TRUE answer: it isn’t. You and they engage is factless hollow demagoguery blaming all the wrong people.

Dumbass, I specifically disavowed the banning of anything.

You prove my point. Thanks.

Well, they have an ultra-violent book that tells them what to do.

WHo said ultraviolent movies & games were the ONLY things that can lead people to violence?

You should read past the first sentence. Plenty of sociopaths have college degrees.

Again you miss the point and inadvertently make mine. This sociopath didn't live in a vacuum, which you just conceded.

Allow me to help: Vacuum: A state of being sealed off from external or environmental influences.

Not our guy, who couldn't miss the premier of his cherished comic book fantasy film. You know, one of his external influences. No Joke.

And again you ignore the reality. Sociopaths are sociopaths, period. They’re born that way, they don’t get better. Yes, they’re in a vacuum. Doesn’t matter what movies they watch, books they read, music they listen to, they’re sociopaths forever. Vacuum.

The word used was influence, not force. Example of word usage: the corrupt old media influenced people to vote the vile Kenyan Marxist into office.
