Was Barack Obama married when he attended college?
If not, then why do photographs of him at Occidental College and in New York City in the years when he was supposed to have attended Columbia University show him wearing a ring on the ring finger of his left hand?
First, consider the photograph of Obama taken with his grandparents, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, on a park bench in front of Central Park, most likely along Fifth Avenue, as seen in Exhibit 1

The ring is much clearer in photographs of Obama taken by Lisa Jack at Occidental College in Los Angeles. Two of Jack’s photographs, which were published by Time after the 2008 election, clearly show Obama with a ring on the ring finger of his left hand.

I’m not sure I believe it means much. It could have been a ring he was gifted and it was too small or too large and wore it on the finger that fit best. A guy in college isn’t likely may not bother to have a ring sized. It may have been an inexpensive ring and not worth sizing.
Good catch, I never noticed the ring at all.
The conclusion that the ring meant he was married is totally unwarranted.
People are free to wear any kind of ring on any finger for any reason.
What means a certain thing to you or me can mean something entirely different to another.
I agree the ring is fit subject for interest and speculation.
But to headline it, “Was he married?” is just a bridge way too far.

That photo? Probably a composite. Notice Grandpa's alleged left hand on Obama's shoulder. It is a physical impossibilty given the position of Grandpa's shoulder and the length of his arm.
