They survey asks how you would rank all 27 candidates: “strong,” “okay,” “weak,” or “unsure.” 66% of the “opinions” for Rubio were “strong,” which far surpassed the “strong” ratings of any other candidate. The format of the survey did not ask for your “favorite” candidate.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Putting Rubio on the list of potential preferences means they don't take the Constitutional eligibility requirement seriously.

“Tea Party Express did not choose to back Rubio, offer any kind of “endorsement,” or offer to campaign for him in anyway. They only released the results of a survey they conducted, which shows which VP “contenders” were popular among Tea Party Express supporters.”

Thanks, AlexandraR, I’m glad to hear that.

It seems hardly anyone read the article, but just believed the sensationalist headline.

From The Tea Party Express:

Senator Marco Rubio – Tea Party Choice for Vice-President

Congressmen Paul Ryan and Allen West Strong Tea Party Favorites

Washington, DC –Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer announced today the results of the nationwide survey of Tea Party Express supporters that showed Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio the favorite vice-presidential candidate.

Kremer said, “It is not a big surprise that Marco Rubio is the favorite candidate of the tea party for the vice-presidential nod. He ran as a strong fiscal conservative, and he has delivered with his record in the U.S. Senate for the last two years. The only surprise is that he led the other excellent candidates by such a wide margin.

“The next favorites of the Tea Party Express supporters were Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Congressman Allen West (R-FL). Both Ryan and West have become extremely popular within the tea party movement because of their strong stands on getting America’s fiscal house in order, which is the number one issue facing our country.”

The Tea Party Express has been surveying their supporters for the last month with a mail-in ballot. Twenty-seven different candidates were on the ballot, and respondents were asked to rate the candidates as “strong,” “ok” or “weak.” Over 8,000 responses have been tabulated.

Rubio was found to be a “strong” candidate by 66.0% of the tea party supporters. Ryan was second at 49.9%, and West was third at 46.8% to round out the top three finishers. The second tier of support was for former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

Strong support was also shown for former Governor Mike Huckabee, Governor Chris Christie, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, businessman Herman Cain and Senator Rand Paul.

Kremer continued, “What was clear from the results of the survey as well as the many comments we received is that conservatives want to win this election. They are committed to defeating Barack Obama in the race for the White House, taking the gavel out of the hands of Harry Reid in the Senate and adding to our tea party supporters in the House of Representatives.

“All twenty-seven of the candidates were acceptable to the tea party. They just want to make sure we end the big-spending in Washington,” Kremer concluded.

Tea Party Express is the largest tea party political action committee in the nation. The organization aims its activity at reducing the size, cost, and intrusiveness of the federal government by electing pro-growth fiscal conservatives.

Marco Rubio 66.0%
Paul Ryan 49.9%
Allen West 46.8%
Rick Santorum 44.0%
Sarah Palin 41.0%
Michele Bachmann 40.9%
Scott Walker 39.8%
Mike Huckabee 39.1%
Chris Christie 37.9%
Newt Gingrich 34.7%
Herman Cain 34.5%
Rand Paul 31.9%

BTW, I asked the mods to add to the title (Article says Tea Partiers not TPX)

Some writers will do anything to get readership and see if they can pull the wool over people's eyes.

Something wrong with the Tea Partiers? The following do not belong on anyone’s list for VP...

Mike Huckabee
Rick Santorum
Michele Bachmann
Chris Christie

Mike Huckabee is a pseudo conservative
Rick Santorum is not a conservative
Chris Christie is not a conservative, though I like him...he is good for NJ
Michele Bachmann is in way over her head.

Just my not so humble opinion...and I would pick Pres/VP candidates from the also ran in the list, were it possible to not have Mittens.

I could add to that list...

I think that the Tea Party Express wanted to use many possibilities to see how the people they sent the survey to would react to even some impossible choices.

It’s always good to see how absurd some people’s choices would be.

When you think about it, Romney shouldn’t be on the list for President!

Too true! Too bad McLame did not pick him for VP candidate 4 years ago...Mittens would not be the candidate today, IMO.

Thanks for the clarification of the “survey method”.

I think that this is a delibertly deceptive article. They made a statement that implied 66% of the Tea Party Express prefered Rubio. But in fact that was not what the survey said.

The survey was more about perception of strength by candidates.

I restate: I like Dick Armey. I appreciate what he has done for the nation. I do not think Rubio is the best VP candidate.

I don’t like weasle word statements like this article.

No problem! And yes, many of the articles out there on the topic are deceiving. You can read the PR for yourself here: http://www.teapartyexpress.org/4852/senator-marco-rubio-tea-party-choice-for-vice-president

One more thing - Dick Armey is a great guy, but he is with FreedomWorks. The “Dick Armey” of Tea Party Express is Sal Russo.

:)

FreedomWorks says it will end its participation in the Tea Party Express’ “Reclaiming America” tour Sunday, when the former Massachusetts governor is scheduled to speak before the group’s rally in Concord, N.H. The group, headed by former House majority leader Dick Armey,

Think my mind was connecting the two because of past associations.

To end this thread with what has been held by the Supreme Court of the United States.

The Supreme Court syllabus for Minor v. Happersett.

The syllabus doubles down and emphasizes the Supreme Court opinion for Minor v. Happersett that states:

“1. The word “citizen ” is often used to convey the idea of membership in a nation.

2. In that sense, women, if born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction of the United States, have always been considered citizens of the United states, as much so before the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution as since.”
