Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) has reemerged as a viable vice presidential candidate who would check many of the boxes Mitt Romney is looking for in a running mate.
Hes an experienced legislator who has earned respect from both parties in Congress, and if he didnt end up in a Romney cabinet many think he could one day become the Republican leader in the Senate.
In an interview with The Hill, Thune acknowledged hes been to Boston to meet Romneys senior advisers and has met Beth Myers, who is leading the search for the vice presidential nominee.

Thune also has a special ability to excite conservative pundits and grassroots activists, along with a plainspoken way of delivering a conservative message.
He was raised by devoutly Christian parents in an 800-square-foot home in Murdo, S.D. - a town of fewer than 500 people and can relate to the average American a lot better than most of his Senate colleagues.

Who is he?
Is that the thing? I was trying to remember -- all I could recall is that there was a time he voted against the conservatives because of some kind of personal snit . .
Martinez is virtually unknown outside of New Mexico. If she is being seriously considered, she better be preparing hard—whoever is announced will be hit with an onslaught as least as ferocious as the one Palin faced, and he or she had better be ready to handle it.
There are three living Americans who have successfully run for Vice President on a Republican ticket--George H. W. Bush, Dan Quayle, and Dick Cheney--but it is a safe bet that none of them is being considered.
So much for turning to someone who has shown he can get the job done...
I like Thune a lot better than some of the other names I’ve seen kicked around. True, we don’t need to carry South Dakota but I presume he plays well throughout the upper midwest in states we could certainly use like Wisconsin, Minnesota and/or Michigan.
Plus, Thune can’t be shrugged off as a pander nomination like a woman or a minority.
Thune. Exactly, what we need. Another dude who supported TARP.
How is the economy in South Dakota?
Yeah, Vice President Ethanol. Just what we need.
Oops. Forgot about 1964. LBJ did carry South Dakota in his landslide victory over Goldwater.
Agreed. Susana Martinez is way better than Rubio!
