It may not be clear to Reuters who the protestors were, but from the photos and posts to YouTube it is to me: they were mostly Coptic Christians (with maybe a few modernist nominal Muslims thrown in).
(And I guess they are the Egyptian branch of the VRWC — so conservative they still only use the Divine Liturgy of Basil the Great, that shortened version by John Chrysostom is too modern. . .)

Their indignation is most understandable but I am nonetheless grieved to see Christians behaving badly on the Lord's Day after Liturgy....some Third and Fourth Commandment issues here.
