GDANSK, Poland (AP) Polish officials unveiled a statue of former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II on Saturday, honoring two men widely credited in this Eastern European country with helping to topple communism 23 years ago.
The statue was unveiled in Gdansk, the birthplace of Lech Walesa's Solidarity movement, in the presence of about 120 former Solidarity activists, many of whom were imprisoned in the 1980s for their roles in organizing or taking part in strikes against the communist regime...

The hatred, ignorance, and historical revisionism on display in the comments to that story are truly depressing.

When I was a kid Polish jokes were common and always impugned the intelligence of Poles.
This article testifies to the uncomfortable truth that our citizenry is becoming increasingly ignorant compared to much of the rest of the world.
Germany and Eastern Europe clearly understand the significance of Ronald Reagan, while half our country still believes the narrative of studipity about Reagan spewed by the media and liberals.
It’s very saddening and frustrating.

Reagan,Thatcher,Pope John Paul II and Helmut Kohl are all owed an enormous debt of gratitude for having played such a huge roll in the collapse of Soviet Communism.

I can't help it. When I think of what that one man accomplished, with joy in his work and a love for God, and how we've changed, I start to choke.
We simply must provide workable alternatives to government controlled education. The teachers' unions must be destroyed. The universities must collapse.
It's doable. Virtually nobody likes this system.

doubt that we would see a work of art like that here. on a
side note, the home page on bing today featured a photo of gdansk. maybe poland would be a good place to expatriate
to if/when the bottom falls out.

Reading and typing with tears in my eyes. Long live principled men and women who can confront evil and defeat it. May God bless them both eternally and may we always carry their spirit in our hearts and minds.
