Bikini-clad, gun-toting Israeli woman becomes an Internet sensation
A photo of a gun-wielding, bikini-clad woman standing on a crowded Tel Aviv beach has become an Internet sensation, with thousands of viewers curious about whether the brunette beauty is part of Israel's military and why she wasn't in uniform with her weapon in tow.
The newspaper Haaretz notes that 'To an Israeli, the photo makes perfectly practical sense. When soldiers take their weapon off military premises, they must guard it closely and keep it on their person, at all times. Having one's weapon stolen is harshly punished with time in military prison a given.'
A photo of a gun-wielding, bikini-clad woman standing on a crowded Tel Aviv beach has become an Internet sensation, with thousands of viewers curious about whether the brunette beauty is part of Israel's military and why she wasn't in uniform with her weapon in tow.
The young woman, dressed only in a black-and-white string bikini, was captured chatting with a friend, rifle (with its magazine removed) slung casually behind her back. Though there's no uniform to identify her, the woman appears to be part of the Israel Defense Forces. Two years of IDF service is mandatory for most Israeli women at age 18. Men serve three years.
The photo was viewed 650,000 times in one day and was posted on sites including Facebook, Reddit and Gizmodo under titles like "Only in Israel," and "Badass Chicks in Israel Don't Go To the Beach Without Their Assault Rifles." It garnered a series of lascivious comments from male admirers but almost as many questions about the IDF's weapons policy for off-duty soldiers.
Israel's Haaretz newspaper, which picked up on the viral photo, wrote that "To an Israeli, the photo makes perfectly practical sense. When soldiers take their weapon off military premises, they must guard it closely and keep it on their person, at all times. Having one's weapon stolen is harshly punished with time in military prison a given. "
Haaretz also concludes that Israelis are "used to seeing guns in all kinds of places - propped up next to the guy sitting next to us in a coffeeshop, or in a university classroom, and of course, slung over the shoulders of women soldiers." That apparently also includes the shoulder of a woman ready for an afternoon at the beach.
And they’re not screaming wildly and passing out from the sight of a firearm?? What’s wrong with these folks?
Second thing I noticed too.
The guy walking away from her, is that the Brady Bunch guy?
The ultimate military diversion tactic.
No. Chris Knight (the Brady Bunch guy) and her are divorced. She was walking around the convention center alone posing with the public.
Here is another shot of her in the same pose taken probably 30-secs earlier.
Hi antceecee. Yes, I, too recognized her eyes. :-)
Nothing new. I’ve been telling a story since 1989 when our ship (CVN-71) visited Haifa. We saw several gorgeous young ladies walking around town with a weapon over one shoulder and a purse over the other. Beautiful ladies in Israel!
If she has no magazine, she is carrying a club.
Wanna bet he's busy renewing his passport? lol
ZOOT: "And then the spanking! And the oral sex!"
GIRLS: "The oral sex! The oral sex!"
Hahaha...Laz gave his opus the other day...kind of!
Agreed, nothing new. I have a pic from 1995 of an IDF bikini gal slinging her M16A2. At least they carry M4s now, somewhat more compact. But right after the 1967 victory there were lots of images of Israeli girls carrying Uzi’s. They wore snug khaki shorts & khaki shirts with the ends tied to bare the midriff.
My comment on those pics:
The crazy is strong in this one.
do you have the link to that opus?...... I seriously want to read what he said.... I am extremely concerned with the decline of Free Republic
It was thought that the black stripes on the bias are hash marks celebrating Laz hits
What does that mean?
Correction: Laz gave America's opus the other day
To a place with daily, indiscriminate terror attacks?
If you’ve ever been to Israel, you know that you see IDF personnel everywhere (both on and off duty) carrying their weapons. Its a pretty good deterrent against terrorism or crime of any sort. On the flip side, many IDF personnel look and act like college students—except they’re wearing uniforms and guns. They appear to act much less professional than US military personnel.
The girl in the black poka-dot dress in the photo you posted looks like Chloe from 24.
