Penn State plans to renovate the building where Jerry Sandusky sexually molested boys.
University spokesman David La Torre said today that Penn State plans to remodel the football shower and locker room area as a direct result of Sanduskys crimes. The former defensive coordinator was convicted of assaulting some of his victims in the team shower.
La Torre said renovation plans to the Lasch Football Building were drawn up shortly after Sanduskys arrest in November.
Reminders of the Sandusky child sex abuse scandal and the senior school officials accused of covering it up are all over Penn States campus and State College. School officials say they are still weighing how to deal with the other imagery associated with the scandal.
A statue outside Beaver Stadium served as a focal point for mourners of late coach Joe Paterno, but it has turned into a target for critics angered by former FBI director Louis Freehs findings that Paterno and other university administrators concealed allegations against Sandusky in 1998 and 2001 to avoid bad publicity.
You go to a Penn State football game and theres 100,000 people down there and they got that statute and you know doggone well theyll start talking about Sandusky, Bowden told The Associated Press. If it was me, I wouldnt want to have it brought up every time I walked out on the field.

Typical liberal reaction. Blame guns, blame SUVs, now blame showers.
Yes, the shower design FORCED Standusky to rape young men. Yeah, sure.
IT’S NOT THE SHOWER DESIGN, YOU ASSHOLES.
They knew all along Sandusky was a sick demented evil freak. They just looked the other way.
DON’T BLAME THE SHOWERS.
Why punish thousands of people for the actions of a handful? You won’t be hurting anyone that was involved, since they have either died or been fired, removed, or arrested. What good is it to punish the local bar owner or the ticket collector at the stadium or the hot dog vendor?
There’s a big difference between SMU and Penn State.....SMU Football meant nothing to the local Dallas economy, but PSU Football is everything to Happy Valley.
Opposing fans are going to be brutal when Penn State comes to visit.

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.
Mirrored ceiling and walls.
“Im afraid its going to take a bit more than paint to hide that stain.”
Well put.
Oh yeah, it WAS the shower stalls that caused the rapes.
What disgusting idiots came up with THAT excuse? IT WAS NOT THE SHOWER STALLS. IT was the perverts and the creeps who covered for them.
It was the damn school elites looking the other way. That’s what caused the rapes to continue.
NOT the shower stalls.
Fire these people - keep them and their ideas away from our children.

Maybe NOT ironic - maybe part of a creepy culture Penn State had going...

scoutmaster - I don’t feel Louis Freeh is perfect - but I trust the process of his judgement. Many times in life we aren’t given a choice between ‘good and bad’ but between ‘horrible’ and a little bit more horrible. In spots like that you have to trust the basis of a person’s thinking process - I trust Louis Freeh’s. Are all his choice ‘right’? No. The last perfect person to live on this earth could walk on water. But is he a good man? Yes. So, we’ll disagree on this one... happens.
Did you mean to direct your comment to me?
I don't dispute Freeh's opinions in his report.
I was suspicious of Freeh to begin with, because of his history of reaching conclusions first and then writing the report (for example, personally naming Richard Jewell as the Olympic Centennial Park bomber, or his whitewashed report on Waco and the Branch Davidian compound).
Also, I wouldn't be stunned if, hidden behind Freeh's criticism of the BOT, he left out details devastating to his employer, the BOT, regarding that BOT members may have known since 1998. I only have to think of TWA 800, Vince Foster, Waco, and other reports he's handled to know I don't trust him to wait to draw conclusions until he's done his research.
With respect to Paterno, Spanier, Schultz, and Curley, I think Freeh told us as much as he could. Remember than he was limited in what he could disclose based on what the AG and other prosecutors still working on this case would permit him to disclose.
I don't think we really disagree on much.
How about teaching big, strapping asst coaches to rescue boys who are being raped by predators in showers?
