Under Obama, More Lucrative For Single Mom To Earn $29K Than $69K

Remember Julia, the fictional woman created by the Obama campaign to illustrate the benefits of big government? Now there is hard evidence that Julia should probably stay home and pick up her government check rather than getting a good job.

A new chart put together by Gary Alexander, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of State, shows that Julia, as a single mom with two kids in daycare, would be better off remaining in her $29,000 per year job than she would be in a $69,000 per year job because of the benefits she would obtain from the government. In the lower paying job, Julia would net $57,327 after she received her government benefits, while in the higher paying job, she would net $57,045.

This situation, where someone doesn’t gain by advancing in their career because the government disincentivizes such behavior, is called the “welfare cliff.” So the government is actually paying people not to be upwardly mobile, discouraging them from achievement and transmitting the message that there is more value in remaining dependent on the government.

NO NONE dares to talk about this. The last time I heard the words "Welfare cliff" used, Ronald Reagan was in the White House.

I have mentioned this to people in the past and they just don't get it. But that's why you have people that choose to only work part time because they actually receive more pay. I know a woman that is supposedly a “poor single mother” so she works as a waitress, part-time, and only claims about half of her tips. The benefits flow in. Her kids father also pays her child support and has the children a lot of the time. And, the one kid old enough to go to college only has to use her income to apply for aid so they're getting tons of financial aid at our expense. Her car is a year newer then mine and I think it's her only payment that actually comes out of her pocket, that and insurance for that car.

Not very encouraging. But this is exactly what nobama wants. And it's why the USDA is running ads for food stamps.

Notice the small part cash plays in this scenario.

This is a large part of why people I talk to weekly as a triage interviewer at a food bank are not interested in finding a job. Why work when nobama will support you? And now he's taken away the work incentive in TANF. Sit on your ass, do nothing and vote for nobama.

The solution is to get rid of the cliff and give everyone the same benefits (or at least a credit against their tax liabilities).

This can work if we allow taxpayers a credit for all the services THAT THEY PURCHASE FOR THEMSELVES.

Taxpayers are being asked to support other people. We should at least give them credit for TAKING CARE OF THEMSELVES.

NOBODY should have to pay half their income to taxes. What kind of communist are you that you believe a person should give up 1 hour of their labor for every hour they keep?
