CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The U.S. Army will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing next season, effectively ending its sponsorship in NASCAR altogether after a decade.
SHR said Tuesday it is pursuing a new sponsor.
...
The Army has been in NASCAR for 10 seasons, ..
...
The decision to leave NASCAR comes as Rep. Betty McCollum of Minnesota and Rep. Jackson Kingston of Georgia are pushing an amendment that would prohibit military sponsorship of sports.
McCollum lost a House vote a year ago to end military sponsorships of NASCAR, professional wrestling and fishing, but is trying again to have the approximately $80 million in sponsorship cut from the defense budget.
McCollum applauded the Army's decision to pull out of NASCAR.
"The Army made the right move to eliminate a wasteful program and protect taxpayer dollars - which has been my goal all along," she said. "Congress is facing a very difficult budget environment, and I want taxpayer dollars protected, even at the Pentagon.

McCollum is a divorced unhappy liberal to the left of Fidel Castro. Her son use to swim on our son’s YMCA swim team. She was one of those parents that dropped him off, never volunteered, never stayed to watch him swim, and then showed up after the meet to pick him up.
Consider how many kids grow up from diapers seeing NASCAR and the military together in a positive light. When I used to take my ex wife’s son to the races, all he ever wanted was the military themed NASCAR gear. He was as interested in the troops wandering around as he was in the cars.
she doesn’t want nascar sponsered because its more regular, middle class people that like it...not her leftist mob....
I gotta’ agree. This was improper. Reminds me of the ancient SNL skit with John Belushi trying to make the Air Force seem cool.
Then no Basketball, Football or Baseball ads.
The most patriot (and conservative) kids are into NASCAR, Fishing, and even wrestling. To single those sports out is definite discrimination and it is bad for the military, since these are the bread and butter of our military.
Meh. It’s part of their advertizing budget for recruiting. It looks like stupid over-detailed meddling in how the services use the money given them to do the jobs we task them with.
Probably order by zero himself. It was too effective in recruitment. No we just can’t have that now can we?
I’ll drink to that!
NASCAR is still the best advertizing bargain there is.
If the election does not change the direction, the military Nascar funds will be diverted to pride parade floats with “faboulous” drivers and support crews.
Good. This money could be better spent supporting green companies like Solyndra, maybe some extra long-term help Katrina victims, midnight basketball, blah, blah, blah.
Just smart advertising...I'm jes' sayin'...
BM, as Rep. McCollum is colloquially known, is a raving leftist lunatic from a raving leftist lunatic base district in the Twin Cities metro area. She opposes this Army strategy because she wants to detract from the manly venues the Army supports and to cut into recruitment from masculine sources. Better an all-leftist, all-fruitcake military than one capable of defending anything.
What, you got sumpin against sponsoring gay wedding chapels?
Next sponsor, Queens of New Orleans?
Gotta save money to pay for those Gay Pride parties, parades and “festivities” at the Pentagon?
This is aimed directly at recruitment of volunteers. FedGov also cut funding for some “free” military bands- free if you allow a recruitment booth.
The left, remembering 1968, would love a draft so they can recruit kids themselves.
Exactly. Expect support for the "Gay Olympics" and other homosexual events. Until the Congress bans homosexuals from the military, Americans should avoid serving in any branch of the military.
The Army will now be sponsoring interior decorating competitions and gay cabaret.
