New York Citys diminutive apartments have long been the butt of many a housing joke, but now developers are poised to take the concept of downsizing to a new low. City planners believe that tiny studio units measuring 300 square feet or six times the size of a standard jail cell at Rikers Island - could be the answer to a growing population of singles and two-person households. Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday invited developers to come up with ways to fill 335 East 27 Street with what officials are calling micro-units.

The Soviets promised every citizen nine square meters of living space in 1918.
When the wall came down they had still failed to deliver on that.
That’s a 20 x 15 room. The bath needs to be at least 6 x 5 leaving you with 270 sf. Then a closet would take 3 x 2, leaving you with 264sf. So now you’re surrounded by Marxists, paying the highest rate of taxes in the country, in one of the most vulnerable to terror attacks cities in the country and your
“escape” every evening after a 10 hour day at work is to a 264sf government subsidized sh**hole. Sounds awesome!
A standard two-car garage is 400 sf. It’s not that small.
pods instead of pads
Almost all of mankind’s problems can be traced to living too close together.

There are a lot of small families living in campers/travel trailers/motorhomes in western ND, who came here to work in in the oil patch or spin-off jobs in spite of a housing shortage. Not easy for a family with a couple of rambunctious kids, especially in winter, but they are doing what they need to do.
I’m reminded of “The Physiology of New York Boarding Houses” which is one very funny book and is a good reflection on how the NYC housing problem was tackled in the mid 19th century.
GMTA.
Have always wanted to check these guys out in concert - I keep missing them for some reason or other.
Micro apts? stupid idea. I wonder what the rent would be.
For single rooms, there are hotels like the Chelsea Hotel. Then there’s the YMCA.
Bloomberg, How about getting rid of “rent control”. Those people pay about $300 a month for a six room apartment. The “Rent Stabilized” people pay high rents to compensate for those low rents.
How about taking care of those vacant buildings owned by NYC.
I missed out when they came here last year with “The Lamb”.
15’x20’ or 10’x30’. Seems okay to me for a single or even a couple. I have an RV I travel in, so I am used to living in a small space. 300 sq ft is bigger than many RV’s.
the whole thing is to get you into a place that you know you’ll be leaving soon...and the more tiems the better....and for whom?
if you buy one house and live in it all your life, you pay your instection fees, closing costs, points, etc.. one time. but if you keep moving into new joints, you pay those fees, costs and expsnses over and over again. and that money is gone forever, you don’t recoup that.
so if you can be conned into accepting less, then they get to take their bites out of you every time you upgrade...
it’s a racket, and to who does the realtor’s groups give most fo their political contributions?
More Libinsane “progress”, along with toxic light bulbs, disease spreading re-usable shopping bags, sky rocketing energy costs, higher taxes, more gun control, bird killing wind generators, bankrupt solar panel companies and my personal favorite, the “no water using”, stinky male urinals being rolled out in all gubmint and other public restrooms. I just love standing there smelling the last hundred patrons’ collective urine odors.
Yup, let’s hear it for societal progress and enlightenment thx to your neighborhood Libtard.
Now we know the real reason for limiting soft drinks to 16oz...it’s not only fewer calories but space saving too.
